Ambient light sensors can measure ambient light intensity and match the human eye's response to light in various lighting environments. Its application in mobile phones, smart lighting, IoT and other fields is attracting attention from the industry. In response to the huge demand of the emerging market - smart home, ams has launched
a series of ambient light sensors,
including
TSL2540 and TSL2541
ambient light sensors

TSL2740 combined ambient light and proximity sensor
. This series of products

the advantages of high sensitivity and wide dynamic range, which can optimize brightness in any lighting environment.
Currently, the largest application of optical sensors is proximity sensing in smart phones. However, as environmental pollution and energy issues are gaining more and more attention from all walks of life, applications such as smart lighting and smart buildings have great development prospects in the future, and their potential business opportunities may even surpass the mobile phone market.
The new series of compact, high-sensitivity, low-power
ambient light and proximity sensors
launched by ams
can meet
the high sensitivity, low power consumption and small package size requirements of consumer electronic device displays/LED brightness control/intelligent lighting.
The new family achieves very high sensitivity
when detecting ambient light with light intensities as low as
a few millilux
, equivalent to a clear night sky without moonlight. With their
wide dynamic range
, they operate effectively in a variety of lighting environments, from bright sunlight to a dark room, and behind ink-stained cover slips. The sensors can automatically adjust LCD display backlights or indicator LEDs based on changes in ambient light brightness.
Small size
, thin QFN package
All three new optical sensors are available in
a tiny 2.0mm x 2.0mm 0.5mm thin QFN package
, making them suitable for compact consumer devices such as smart home assistants. The TSL2541’s package is made from a special black compound, making the device virtually undetectable when mounted beneath an ink-coated cover glass.
Unique silicon deposition process
The TSL2540, TSL2541 and TSL2740
are equipped with separate day vision ambient light and infrared light sensing channels
,
which are made of interferometric IR and day vision filters deposited directly on silicon. The
day vision channel can achieve light intensity response similar to that of the human eye under a variety of lighting conditions and through very dark attenuating materials.
The TSL2740 performs proximity sensing by measuring the reflected IR light from an external LED. A programmable proximity bias adjustment compensates for the effects of crosstalk caused by the IR LED associated with proximity events within a range of 10 cm.
