TI's affordable Li-ion battery pack reference design for electric motorcycle batteries [Copy link]

The TI reference design presented is a 16S-17S LiFePO4 lithium-ion battery pack design with low current consumption in standby and shipping modes, suitable for backup telecom batteries and electric motorcycles. This reference design is used on a 2-layer PCB. The 9S-15S AFE bq76940 monitors the voltage of the first 15 cells, while the dual-channel general-purpose amplifier LM2904B monitors the voltage of the 16th and 17th cells. With a well-designed auxiliary power strategy and the efficient low quiescent current DC/DC converter LM5164, the design protects the battery pack from overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent and overtemperature, and reduces power consumption in standby and shipping modes, allowing for longer shipping and idle time.

±5mV cell voltage sensing accuracy at room temperature for 16/17S cells
100A current consumption in standby mode
5A current consumption in shipping mode
Powerful and programmable protection features including battery over- and under-voltage, over-current discharge, short circuit, over-temperature, and over-cold protection
