On May 21, Apple's Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams visited TSMC yesterday. The latest news said that the two sides held a "secret meeting" and Apple will take over all of TSMC's initial 2nm process production capacity.
TSMC has long been the exclusive chipmaker for Apple's A-series and M-series processors. Apple has reserved 100% of TSMC's 3nm chipmaking capacity for the A17 Pro chips used in the iPhone 15 Pro models, the M3 chips used in the latest Macs, and the M4 chips used in the new iPad Pro.
TrendForce reported that Apple executives were personally received by Wei Zhejia during their visit to TSMC. Apple's low-key visit was to ensure TSMC's advanced manufacturing capabilities, possibly 2 nanometer technology, for Apple's internal artificial intelligence chips.
According to media reports on April 11, TSMC's 2nm chip research and development work is on track, and the chips used in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max to be launched in 2025 will be the first to use this process.
