Corning® Gorilla® Armor is the most scratch-resistant and optically advanced addition to the Gorilla® Glass family yet, enabling Samsung’s latest flagship smartphones to deliver unprecedented durability and the best viewing experience
Corning, NY – Corning Incorporated and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced on January 17, 2024 that Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra devices will feature Corning’s new Corning® Gorilla® Armor cover material . Gorilla Armor offers unparalleled durability and visual clarity, providing a richer display in sunlight and better protection against damage from daily wear and tear.
“Corning’s Gorilla® Glass along with the Galaxy S series drives innovation and makes significant progress towards greater durability,” said Kwangjin Bae, executive vice president and head of the Mechanical R&D Team of the Mobile Experience Business at Samsung Electronics. This cooperation allows people to use our products with confidence and peace of mind."
Corning® Gorilla® Armor is a different kind of smartphone cover material. Corning Gorilla Armor reduces reflections by up to 75% compared to regular glass surfaces, improving display readability and minimizing screen reflections in nearly any environment1.
Corning's new cover material optimizes Galaxy S24 Ultra's durability. In Corning laboratory testing, Gorilla Armor demonstrated superior durability compared to comparable aluminosilicate cover glass2. To measure its superior scratch resistance, Corning created a new lab test, the Auto-Scratch Device, to simulate tiny scratches caused by everyday wear and tear. In this rigorous test, Gorilla Armor showed no visible scratches and was more than four times more scratch-resistant than comparable aluminosilicate cover glass.
Evaluated and certified by UL Solutions under the UL2809-2 Recycled Content Environmental Claim Verification Process (ECVP), Gorilla Armor contains an average of 25% pre-consumer recycled content3.
“Gorilla Armor combines Corning’s research and engineering strength with Samsung’s consumer-centric design and focus on user experience,” said David Velasquez, vice president and general manager, Corning® Gorilla® Glass. “This latest innovation It simultaneously addresses durability needs and the growing demand for better optical performance – bringing the future of mobile phone experiences into the present.”
Corning and Samsung have a year worth celebrating ahead of the launch of the Gorilla Armor-equipped Galaxy S24 Ultra phones. Last year marked the 50th year of Corning and Samsung's industry-leading partnership. Corning and Samsung first collaborated in 1973 to bring televisions into more homes of Korean consumers.
For half a century, both parties have been adhering to the same spirit of cooperation. Corning® Gorilla® Glass has been used in countless Samsung devices, from some of the earliest Galaxy smartphones to recent models using Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus® 2, including the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip5 . Galaxy S24 Ultra devices feature Gorilla Armor, continuing a long-standing partnership dedicated to creating world-class innovations critical to the mobile consumer electronics industry.
