Google has applied for a new patent that would allow users to perform a range of operations without directly touching the device.

According to Lets Go Digital, Google was recently approved for a patent for operating wearable devices through a "skin interface" or gesture control through the skin.

The patented technology can be applied to a wide range of wearable products, from headphones and smart watches to virtual reality headsets and smart glasses.

Currently, wearable devices are mainly operated through voice commands, built-in microphones and touch input. However, physical control (such as touching or tapping) may cause unnecessary noise or discomfort to users. In addition, Google said that touch can affect the performance of the antenna.

The patent application describes a method where a user performs a swipe or tap gesture on the skin near a wearable device, which generates waves, and sensors and accelerometers detect the movement and determine the type of gesture.

As can be seen from the patent drawings, users can slide up and down, left and right, or tap next to their wrists or ears.

IT Home learned that the Link Buds headphones released by Sony last month used similar technology. The headphones support wide-area click function, and you can play, pause, switch, etc. by lightly clicking the area around the ear close to the cheek.
