On February 8, Nanxin Semiconductor issued a statement saying that there have been some false rumors about Xiaomi Pengpai P1 recently. The official has now responded.

According to reports, the Xiaomi Pengpai P1 chip is designed by Xiaomi and manufactured by Nanxin Semiconductor (internal code name SC8561). This chip has an ultra-high voltage 4:1 charging architecture, realizes 120W single-cell charging, supports 1:1, 2:1 and 4:1 conversion modes, and all modes are bidirectional, which can realize multiple charging functions such as wired 120W, wireless 50W, and wireless reverse charging.

Earlier today, a Weibo user said that the rumor that Xiaomi's self-developed Surge P1 chip was purchased from outside was spreading rumors about Xiaomi's "self-developed" work.

Xiaomi released its third self-developed chip, the Surge P1, in December last year. Lei Jun said that the Xiaomi 12 Pro is equipped with the Surge P1 charging chip, which is the first in the industry to achieve "120W single-cell" charging technology.

Xiaomi has released a detailed introduction to the Pengpai P1, and the official said that the Pengpai P1 fills the gap in the 120W single-cell fast charging industry.

Xiaomi said that in the past, in order to convert the 20V voltage input into the mobile phone into the 5V voltage that can be charged into the battery, a series-parallel circuit of 5 different types of charge pumps was required. A large number of charge pumps and the overall series architecture will generate a lot of heat. In actual use, it is completely impossible to operate at full power for a long time, and it is even more difficult to achieve 120W high-power fast charging.

The core driving the Xiaomi 120W Surge Charge is two Xiaomi self-developed smart charging chips: Surge P1. They take over the traditional 5 charge pump complex structure and convert the high-voltage power input into a mobile phone into a high current that can directly charge the battery more efficiently.

Xiaomi said that as the industry's first resonant charging chip, the Pengpai P1 has a 4:1 ultra-high efficiency architecture with adaptive switching frequency. The resonant topology efficiency is as high as 97.5%, the non-resonant topology efficiency is 96.8%, and the heat loss drops by 30%.

Pengpai P1 itself undertakes a lot of conversion work: traditional charge pumps only need two working modes (transformer and direct), while Pengpai P1 needs to support 1:1, 2:1 and 4:1 conversion modes, and all modes need to support bidirectional conduction, which means a total of 15 combinations of mode switching control are required - 7 times that of traditional charge pumps. The forward 1:1 mode makes the screen charging more efficient, the forward 2:1 mode is compatible with more chargers, the forward 4:1 mode supports 120W Pengpai second charging, and the reverse 1:2/1:4 mode supports high-power reverse charging.

Xiaomi claims that the Pengpai P1 is also Xiaomi's most efficient 4:1 charging chip, which can achieve an ultra-high power density of 0.83W/mm², and the LDMOS also reaches the industry-leading ultra-low 1.18mΩmm² RSP. The Pengpai P1 chip requires three FLY capacitors with different withstand voltages, each capacitor requires an independent open-short circuit protection circuit, and each working mode requires strict control of the pre-charge voltage. The number of power tubes is nearly twice that of a traditional charge pump. And because of the increase in topological design and functional complexity, each Pengpai P1 needs to pass more than 2,500 tests before leaving the factory, which is much higher than traditional charge pumps.

IT Home learned that the Xiaomi 12 Pro, which will be released on December 28, is the first smartphone equipped with Surge P1. It supports 120W wired Surge charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W wireless reverse charging. Xiaomi said that the 120W Surge charging technology of Xiaomi 12 Pro has two modes: low temperature mode, "the temperature is only 37°C, as comfortable as body temperature"; and fast mode, "fully charged in the time of a cup of coffee."
