The final version of Android 12 has been available to developers and eager fans on AOSP for a few weeks, but today it's officially rolling out to those who want to easily get it via OTA. It's now available for installation on Pixel 3 and above, including Pixel 3A, Pixel 4, Pixel 4A, Pixel 4A 5G, Pixel 5, and Pixel 5A.
Of course, it will also be pre-installed on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro released today, and Android 12 will be available on Samsung Galaxy, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Tecno, vivo, and Xiaomi devices later this year.
The most notable feature in Android 12 is the new Material You design, which adjusts the look of the home screen to your own preferences. It's more expressive than previous versions of Android, with tools to coordinate colors that extend to app icons, drop-down menus, widgets, and more.
Speaking of widgets, that aspect has also been updated in appearance, and by the end of October, Google plans to offer more than a dozen new or updated widgets for its first-party apps.
There are a lot more features coming to Android 12, and you can read a blog post from Google that goes in-depth on what you'll be able to experience. However, if you're primarily interested in Material You, this is unfortunately a "Pixel-first" feature, although it will come to "more device manufacturers and phones" soon. In the future, Pixel phones will likely get more "Pixel-first" features in the Android 12 system.
To get the update, go into your Pixel phone’s Settings app, tap “System,” then find “System update” and tap that.
