According to the latest data from DRAMeXchange, a semiconductor research center of TrendForce, memory prices rose further in July compared with the previous month. Among them, the fixed transaction price of PC DRAM (DDR4 8Gb) rose 7.89% from the previous month to US$4.15.
NAND prices also rose in July. The fixed transaction price of 128Gb multi-level cell (MLC) NAND rose 5.28% month-on-month to $4.81. This is the highest price since September 2018 ($5.07).
In addition, the price of single-cell NAND packaged chips also increased by 3%-6% month-on-month, while the price of MLC NAND increased by 5% to 8% month-on-month.
DRAMeXchange pointed out that memory prices usually rise the most at the beginning of each quarter due to the start of new contract negotiations. For example, the fixed transaction price of PC DRAM in April increased by 26.67% month-on-month, the highest increase since the 35.8% month-on-month increase in January 2017.
However, as PC manufacturers began to adjust their inventories in July, TrendForce previously predicted that PC DRAM prices will fall in the fourth quarter. In addition, memory manufacturers cut chip production capacity this quarter.
