Shortly after Huawei's HarmonyOS system was officially released, users of some models have received HarmonyOS update push notifications.
We happened to meet Huawei UX designer Mr. Dafu in Huawei's largest direct-operated flagship store in China, and listened to him tell users some stories behind the aesthetic design of HarmonyOS UX.
It is said that in the HarmonyOS logo, there is a line under the "O", and netizens have open interpretations of this line.
Someone on the pollen forum said that O represents the sun, a horizontal line represents the horizon, and the rising sun represents the design concept of the origin of HarmonyOS. Some people also said that O is an accent, and the horizontal line is a closed accent. Some people said it is O and 1 in computer language, either is fine.
Teacher Dafu brought the true design concept of the new HarmonyOS, forming a new design system from ONE, universe to HarmonyOS.
It is reported that Huawei wants to create a new imagination of interaction between people and the world, a harmonious digital world.
ONE stands for harmony and unity. It uses a set of design languages to connect multiple platforms and devices. This is a language of harmonious coexistence. Universe is the concept of deriving everything. After connecting multiple devices, it creates more interactions and brings more possibilities through creativity.
The biggest visual change of HarmonyOS is the color. The base color is starry sky gray instead of the previous pure black. The design concept comes from the universe, and the operation interface is more profound. Together with another snowy white, it is presented as the main color in the three systems. The secondary colors have high saturation and low saturation. The same colors can be seen on different mature HarmonyOS devices, which can form visual consistency and make people feel comfortable.
This comfortable consistency comes from Huawei's concept of harmonious coexistence, which reduces the cost of secondary learning of the system. In shaping the visual sense of space, all card materials are divided into one layer, shadows are divided into another layer, and the background depth of field is divided into another layer. HarmonyOS wants to make the two-dimensional world give us the sense of depth of the universe, through the visual sense of front, middle and back space created by the distinction of materials.
Dafu also said that HarmonyOS brings a new font, HarmonyOS Sans. For example, HarmonyOS’s “When chaos had not yet been divided, heaven and earth were in turmoil, and the vastness was unseen”, the first feeling is that the font has become much more beautiful.
Huawei has reconstructed all fonts from the three aspects of readability, uniqueness, and versatility, and has concentrated on details such as strokes and ligatures, making them look quite balanced between modernity and humanity.
The Chinese characters are introduced with the bends, folds and hooks of calligraphy. The digital boldface is displayed on the normal screen, and the lead boldface is above the printed text, taking the rounded feeling on the digital electronic display screen.
Daifuku said that such a balance has brought about the new HarmonyOS Sans. This font is not only used on flat surfaces, but also goes beyond the mobile phone screen. In printed materials, it will also have good ink mixing, bringing a different feeling from traditional printing, lead type and digital display.
