Hongmeng mobile phone is finally here!

At 8 pm on June 2, Huawei officially released the new generation of intelligent terminal operating system HarmonyOS 2 and a number of new products equipped with HarmonyOS 2. This also means that "mobile phones equipped with HarmonyOS (Hongmeng)" have become official products for the market.

The Hongmeng operating system, which was previously only used for smart screens, wearable devices and other products, can now be used on more product categories. At the same time, on June 2, Huawei's Hongmeng OS will officially start large-scale push: hundreds of Huawei mobile phones, tablets and other devices will successively start the HarmonyOS 2 upgrade, including HUAWEI Mate 40 series, Mate 30 series, P40 series, Mate X2, nova 8 series, MatePad Pro series and other devices.

At the Huawei HarmonyOS 2 and all-scenario new product launch conference, Huawei Consumer Business CEO Yu Chengdong introduced Huawei's all-scenario 1+8+N smart life solution, which provides a one-stop solution for five major life scenarios: smart home, smart office, smart travel, sports and health, and audio-visual entertainment.

Huawei said that regardless of the size of the device, only one system is needed to cover all types of smart terminal devices, ranging from 128K to 4GB of memory. HarmonyOS's innovative distributed technology allows users to freely combine hardware and integrate multiple terminals.

Wang Chenglu, President of Huawei's Consumer Business Software Department, said at the HarmonyOS 2 and Huawei's all-scenario new product launch that the Hongmeng operating system is a full-stack decoupled architecture, and a set of codes can be used on mobile phones, watches, and many small devices. "The Hongmeng operating system has a unified control center, and multiple devices can form a super terminal to select the most suitable device. For example, when we play music on our mobile phone, after forming a super terminal, we can play the music through the speaker."

Huawei said that in the HarmonyOS 2 control center, a mobile phone can be linked to multiple terminal devices such as TVs, speakers, personal computers, tablets, etc. with just one pull.

HarmonyOS 2 has a simpler interface, a smarter experience, and a new universal card that can be hidden or displayed, with direct access to messages; smart folders of multiple sizes and combinations allow you to directly access the contents of the folders, and can also automatically classify and name them.

HarmonyOS 2 supports seamless switching between multiple devices.

HarmonyOS 2's atomic services flow freely and provide direct service. The message will go wherever the card is shared.

300 million devices by the end of 2021

Previously, according to Xinhua News Agency, Huawei is currently communicating and cooperating with the top 200 App manufacturers in the world to jointly develop cross-terminal device applications.

Huawei estimates that by the end of 2021, the number of devices equipped with the Hongmeng operating system will reach 300 million, of which more than 200 million will be Huawei devices and the number of various terminal devices for third-party partners will exceed 100 million.

Huawei's consumer business CEO Yu Chengdong said that Huawei has sold more than 1 billion full-scenario smart connected devices, of which more than 700 million are online mobile phones. About 90% of Huawei's existing and on-sale mobile phones can be upgraded to the Hongmeng operating system.

According to data from research firm Canalys, Huawei (including Honor) shipped 188.5 million mobile phones in 2020, with a market share of 15%, ranking third. Huawei beat Apple in 2019 with 240 million mobile phone shipments, ranking second.

Sichuan Securities pointed out that the biggest feature of Hongmeng OS is that it is a distributed OS for all scenarios. This means that it will no longer rely solely on mobile phones as the core experience. When the production of mobile phones declines, Huawei can also achieve the goal of 16% market share by supporting wearable devices, TVs, and even new car machines.

In August 2019, Huawei officially released HarmonyOS, a distributed operating system for all scenarios, and put it into use on Huawei Smart Screen. In September 2020, Huawei released HarmonyOS 2.0, and the application devices also extended to Huawei WATCH GT2 Pro, Huawei Smart Selection smart camera and other products. Wang Chenglu, President of Huawei Consumer Business Software Department and Director of AI and Smart All-Scene Business Department, once said that Huawei mobile phones will be able to upgrade to Hongmeng system from early June.

Currently, in the field of mobile operating systems, iOS is Apple's own system, while Android is open to other manufacturers and has an absolute advantage. StatCounter data shows that from April 2020 to April 2021, Google's Android system accounted for 72.2% of the mobile operating system market share, Apple's iOS accounted for 26.99%, and other operating systems accounted for less than 1% of the market share.

In addition to the operating system, this area is also worth paying attention to

According to China Business News, BOC Securities pointed out that in addition to operating systems, Huawei has also recently been actively deploying in the field of smart cars, and superimposed terminal devices such as the Internet of Things, which are expected to be supported by Hongmeng OS. By polishing mature systems on mobile terminals and through the coordination of hardware, it can accelerate the implementation of new platforms such as smart cars and IoT, which is expected to mature two trillion-level markets.

Minsheng Securities believes that smart cars have become a new carrier of intelligence, which is also an important opportunity for Hongmeng to realize its application. Huawei has reached cooperation with many domestic car companies, and relying on its own technical strength and industrial ecology, Hongmeng is expected to become an important entrance to vehicle-side intelligence in the future, thereby leading a new ecology in the automotive field. Under this opportunity, we are optimistic about the long-term prospects of listed companies that closely cooperate with Huawei's automotive ecology, especially Thundersoft and NavInfo.

Hongmeng's "circle of friends" continues to expand

In terms of access to the Hongmeng system, according to data officially disclosed by Huawei, the HarmonyOS ecosystem has developed more than 1,000 smart hardware partners and more than 50 module and chip solution partners, including partners in multiple fields such as home, travel, education, office, sports and health, government and enterprise, and audio and video entertainment. Many of them are A-share listed companies.

According to the Shanghai Securities News, at the HarmonyOS Connect Partner Summit held recently, HarmonyOS ecosystem products from multiple partner manufacturers were unveiled in the summit exhibition area, a considerable number of which came from listed companies, including Midea, Supor, Joyoung, ROBAM, Bear Electric, iFLYTEK, BOE, 360, and Runhe Software.

In addition, on May 28, Meizu also officially announced its access to Hongmeng to embrace all-scenario smart life. According to the Securities Times, Meizu's Lipro smart home products based on the Hongmeng system were officially unveiled at the Meizu Smart Life Conference on May 31. However, Meizu told reporters that currently only its Lipro smart home products are connected to Hongmeng, and its mobile phones and watches are still based on the Android system.
