Microsoft: We are not currently developing a VR system for the new Xbox console

The previous generation of Xbox game consoles did not have a corresponding VR system, unlike the PlayStation 4, which has a PS VR system. PS VR also supports use with the new generation of game consoles PlayStation 5, providing users with a VR system before the next generation of PS VR is released.

A recent report suggests that owners of Xbox Series X/S consoles want to install VR systems on their devices, but it looks like that won't be possible, at least in the short term.

Previously, IGN Italy reported that when they were testing the new Xbox Wireless headset, they received a prompt on the Xbox Series X console saying that their VR device needed to be updated. This message triggered several speculations that the game console would support VR devices and that Microsoft might actually be secretly developing a device to be released later, but this is not the case.

A Microsoft spokesperson revealed in an interview with IGN that this was inaccurate information and that "VR systems for gaming consoles are not currently our focus."

This news may be sad for Xbox users who were hoping to equip their new consoles with VR equipment, but Microsoft's stance on VR for its consoles does not seem to have changed. Back in 2019, Xbox head Phil Spencer revealed that VR was not part of its next-generation plans because "no one wanted it."
