Huawei has just demonstrated its new Kirin 9000 AI video super-resolution technology. The AI-driven super-resolution system on the Kirin 9000 processor is capable of converting old 540p resolution videos to 1080p content in real time.
Earlier today, Huawei demonstrated the technology in action on Weibo. Super sampling technology powered by the Kirin 9000 AI turns low-quality videos into high-definition content. An example is an image of some lizards, where the lower-resolution 540p content carries a lot of noise in the shot, while the super-sampled 1080p version gives us brighter colors while retaining more details.
In terms of text scenes, the algorithm can also enhance them in a targeted manner to improve their readability. In addition, based on the detection network, the technology can detect faces and perform local optimization. From the demonstration screen, the decorations on the characters in the screen become more conspicuous, and the details of the facial features and hair are clearer and more three-dimensional.
Huawei said that this technology is based on the generative network for video enhancement, which is a network model currently used on a large scale. It is mainly composed of a generator and a discriminator. The model is optimized through "confrontation" between the generator and the discriminator.
