Google's Gmail email service will update its logo

Relying on the power of Google, Gmail has become one of the email service providers with the largest number of users in the world. As early as 2018, Gmail officially released a tweet congratulating its global user base of 1.5 billion, which is equivalent to an average of one account for every five people. We reported this morning that Gmail can now be set as the system default email app on the latest iOS 14.

Today, according to foreign media 9To5Google, Google is preparing to update their logo. The website announced that Google is redesigning Gmail and sent them a preview image.

In fact, Google has been updating the logo appearance of its services this year. In February, Google's map service Google Maps simplified its logo into a pin composed of the company's four main colors, and in June, its photo application Google Photos' logo also changed from the previous realistic style to a very simple four-color windmill shape.

Gmail's current logo can be traced back to 2013. It is an envelope shape with red and white as the main colors, and the red M represents Mail. From the pictures, it is expected that the letter M will be retained as the logo of Mail, and it will be flatter and more rounded, which is more in line with the current design language of Google software logo. As for the color, Google is likely to continue to use the four-color combination.

In addition, looking back at the redrawing of the logos of major Google services, they are all accompanied by the reintegration and upgrading of services, and Gmail is no exception.

As early as June, coinciding with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference application Google Meet was launched on the Gmail App; in July, Google introduced more document collaboration features on Gmail. The addition of the above features has made Gmail go beyond the traditional email client and become more like an office application. However, Google said that it would not deliberately change the core experience of Gmail as an email application.

Javier Soltero, director of Google's office suite G Suite, said in an interview, "People tell me that they are overwhelmed by the torrent of information and tasks. Compared with learning other office applications, we need the current applications to become more helpful to users."

Google isn't fundamentally changing Gmail; it will remain an email app.
