Yonhap News Agency reported on June 30 that according to the "June Korean 5G User Experience Report" released by British market research agency Open Signal, when using 5G smartphones in South Korea, the actual time connected to the 5G signal is only 15% of the usage time. From the perspective of the proportion of 5G connection time of each communication company, SK Telecom accounts for 15.4%, the highest among the three major communication companies. Next is LG U+ and KT, with 15.1% and 12.5% respectively. At present, South Korea's 5G commercial service NSA (non-independent networking) mode shares equipment with the LTE network. In places where 5G cannot be connected, the signal will automatically convert to LTE.
According to telecom industry insiders, South Korea's 5G coverage is relatively narrow, and most of the network is connected to LTE when indoors. In addition, because 5G mobile phones consume a lot of battery, it is difficult to connect to 5G signals smoothly in areas beyond the coverage area.
