According to foreign media reports in December 2019, the mass production plan of LG Display's 8.5-generation OLED panel factory in Guangzhou, China has been postponed to after the first quarter of 2020.
In January this year, LGD President Zheng Haoyong and the company announced plans to enter mass production of OLED in the first quarter of this year and increase the production capacity of OLED TV panels including Paju to 6 million. However, due to the spread of the new coronavirus, the mass production of LGD's Guangzhou OLED factory in China will be delayed until the second quarter.
On February 17, Korean media Biz.chosun reported that LGD Guangzhou is currently in the stage of sending samples for quality certification, but has not yet passed the verification. Industry insiders said that the core packaging of OLED failed to pass the verification of its largest customer LG Electronics due to poor packaging in the core process of OLED. The company needs to resend improved samples, but the response process has been hindered by the impact of the new coronavirus.
On March 16, Korean media THEELEC reported that LGD's Guangzhou plant may start mass production in May.
However, to date, there has been no news of mass production of LGD's Guangzhou project.
