Foreign whistleblower Jon Prosser said that Apple is still continuing to develop an AirPower-like wireless charging pad that can charge multiple devices at once. He shared a photo of a prototype codenamed "C68."

The C68 charging mat shown in today's leaked photos looks identical to the AirPower that Apple released in 2017, but it looks like Apple has solved the problems that existed before? In the picture, the Apple Watch and AirPods Pro are shown charging on the mat.

What will happen to the product later and when will it be released for mass production again? No one knows.

A few months ago, Prosser claimed that Apple had solved the overheating problem of the wireless charging mat by reducing the number of coils and integrating an A11 chip that can dynamically manage heat. If the tests are successful, Prosser said that the product may be released between the fourth quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021.

Looking back at history, AirPower is probably the product that has made Apple lose face the most. It was originally released in 2017. The biggest difference from other wireless charging bases is that AirPower can charge iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods at the same time, and can be placed anywhere.

AirPower release

AirPower was originally scheduled to be launched in the spring of 2018, but because the problem of multiple coils heating up during wireless charging could not be solved in the actual production process (another theory is that the Apple Watch is not charged with the Qi standard and there are compatibility issues), the launch plan was delayed again and again; they eventually canceled this product.

Finally, in March 2019, Apple canceled AirPower, stating that the product failed to meet its high standards, but without going into detail.

In January, well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that one of Apple's new hardware products in the first half of 2020 would be a "smaller wireless charging mat," but this was thought to be a single-device solution, not a place for multiple devices, as was originally planned for AirPower. The product could have been announced at WWDC 2020 next week, but plans may have changed due to the global health crisis.
