Market research firm Strategy Analytics pointed out in its latest research report that the Android smartphone market is increasingly dominated by affordable models.

The report shows that among the top six best-selling Android models in the world in the first quarter of 2020, four were from Samsung and two were from Xiaomi. Samsung Galaxy A51 ranked first, with global shipments of 6 million units and a market share of 2.3%. Xiaomi Redmi 8 is the second best-selling Android smartphone in the world. In addition, the third to sixth mobile phone models are Samsung Galaxy S20+, Samsung Galaxy A10s, Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 and Samsung Galaxy A20s.

Neil Mawston, executive director of Strategy Analytics, said that Samsung's A51 smartphone is popular in all regions, especially in Europe and Asia. Xiaomi's Redmi series smartphones are becoming increasingly popular in India and China, as well as throughout Europe. In addition, Samsung's Galaxy S20 is the only ultra-high-end model in the TOP 6.

Qian Sui, Director at Strategy Analytics, said: “In Q1 2020, global smartphone shipments reached 275 million units, of which the Android segment accounted for 86%. The vast majority of smartphones currently sold worldwide are Android models.”
