According to Espressif's official WeChat account, on November 30, 2019, Espressif's flagship chip ESP32 passed the Bluetooth LE 5.0 certification of the Bluetooth Technology Alliance (Bluetooth SIG).
This means that the protocol version supported by ESP32 Controller has been upgraded from Bluetooth LE 4.2 to Bluetooth LE 5.0, which has higher stability and compatibility. Bluetooth LE 5.0 is becoming the mainstream version of current Bluetooth chips. In this way, ESP32 will be more compatible and adaptable to other Bluetooth 5.0 chips, and play an advantage in the field of Bluetooth and the Internet of Things.
Founded in 2008, Espressif is a multinational R&D company focusing on wireless communication chips and solutions in the fields of IoT and AI. It has established sales and R&D centers in many regions around the world. Headquartered in Shanghai, China, it provides customers with one-stop IoT and AI solutions including chips, hardware, software, APP, and cloud (including third-party cloud). Among them, the most popular chips in the world are ESP8266 and ESP32 series.
In 2016, Espressif released its flagship ESP32 series chips.
In September 2019, Espressif released the latest product of the ESP32 family, ESP32-S2. Its biggest highlight is the support for multiple GPIOs, with the number of GPIOs reaching 43. The previous version, ESP32-S1, has a maximum of 34 GPIO ports and uses an Xtensa 32-bit LX7 single-core processor with a main frequency of 240 MHz. The ESP32-S1 is an Xtensa 32-bit LX6 single/dual-core processor with a main frequency of 240 MHz.
