According to GIZMODO, in July this year, Intel announced that it would sell its mobile phone baseband chip business to Apple for $1 billion. After the transaction is completed, more than 2,200 employees, various facilities and equipment, leases, related patents and intellectual property rights of Intel's mobile phone baseband chip business will be transferred to Apple.

Recently, Reuters pointed out that even if Intel sold its mobile phone baseband chip business for $1 billion, it still lost billions of dollars. According to the appeal document filed by Intel on November 29 against Qualcomm's antitrust charges, it was Qualcomm's unfair competition that led to these losses.

After breaking away from its competitive relationship with Qualcomm, Intel will focus on non-smartphone business areas such as PC, automotive and IoT component development.

Through this acquisition, Apple's hardware business has been expanded, and a large number of experienced technicians and patented technologies have been acquired at one stroke. It also provides more breathing space for Apple's self-developed modems, allowing it to concentrate on 5G technology development and subsequent retail equipment applications.

So, whether Apple can launch its own baseband chip just like it launched its self-developed chips remains to be seen!
