Looking back at the development of 4G, it took three years for the first 4G terminal to be launched on the market, and it took four years to bring the price of 4G mobile phones to the thousand-yuan range. However, the 5G industry is developing rapidly. 5G mobile phones will be launched this year, and it is estimated that mobile phones priced at thousand-yuan will also appear next year. Of course, the most optimistic time will be the beginning of the year after next.
When it comes to the tariff issue that consumers are concerned about, many people joked that "the house belongs to China Mobile overnight". In fact, according to the information disclosed by the operators, the tariff will be more targeted according to the 5G application scenarios. This means that different tariff packages will be set up according to the usage scenarios and applications.
Just like in the current 4G era, operators have directional traffic specifically for a certain video APP. Such video applications require a lot of traffic. If conventional traffic packages are used, it is obviously not attractive to users and will also hinder the development of application scenarios to a certain extent.
At present, the application scenarios of 5G are still in the exploration stage. The application scenarios include government affairs, manufacturing, transportation, logistics, education, medical care, media, police, tourism, environmental protection, etc., covering a wide range. Regarding the 5G package charges, operators are expected to determine them within two months after the license is issued, which means that the 5G package charges of major operators will be available in August. Although the specific price has not yet been determined, it is estimated that it will not be more expensive than the 4G package, and it will also be formulated according to the application scenario, so consumers do not need to worry too much.
Of course, 5G networks are definitely better than 4G networks, including in terms of speed, latency, and key indicators. For consumers, the first impression is definitely faster, so everyone is worried about traffic fees. However, from the perspective of technology and network layout, the initial 5G uses frequency bands below 6GHz, which are limited by factors such as the number of base stations, coverage quality, and the number of users. It is not much higher than 4G, so the experience may not meet people's imagination. In addition, regarding the tariff issue, operators will definitely provide reasonable package plans. From a policy perspective, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is implementing speed-up and fee reduction, and operators dare not be too chaotic with their 5G packages.
Judging from the current situation, 5G networks will not begin to mature and truly usher in large-scale applications until at least 2020. According to the popularity of 4G, if 5G is to truly grow rapidly, the next two years is a conservative estimate. Therefore, you can still use 4G mobile phones with confidence.
New scenario applications and business models of 5G
The issuance of 5G commercial licenses truly means the beginning of our 5G era, and we will soon enter a brand new information age.
Of course, in the 5G era, fast speeds, large-scale connections, and ultra-low latency are the basis of our life applications. How to generate new business models and new application scenarios from these foundations is the challenge that 5G will face next.
As Tang Hai, OPPO's chief 5G scientist, said, what users will need in the future is a "5G+" experience. Only by integrating 5G with innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and 3D information collection and reproduction can we maximize our value and bring about a disruptive experience.
