According to the Chosun Ilbo, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Communications (MSICT) of South Korea announced on the 10th that the number of 5G base stations in South Korea has increased to 57,266, an increase of 3,064 (5.6%) base stations compared to the previous week (April 29). The number of devices installed in base stations is 124,689, an increase of 7,688 from last week.

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Information Technology held a "5G Service Inspection Civil-Public Joint Working Group" in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province on the 9th, attended by the South Korean government, telecommunications companies and equipment companies. In addition to improving quality issues, South Korea also plans that telecommunications companies will promote the construction of 5G facilities in sequence from next month, giving priority to 120 buildings including 24 KTX, subway stations, 12 airports, large shopping malls and exhibition centers, and major stadiums.

Regarding the controversial 5G quality, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Information said: "For the speed reduction and network disconnection that occur when using 5G smartphones, telecommunications companies and manufacturers are improving these problems by improving software patches and optimizing connections." On the other hand, some users will experience a problem with the terminal displaying "5G" when using LTE services, which will be resolved through a related patch in the fourth week of May.

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Information Technology also plans to conduct on-site visits at the next joint civil-public meeting on 5G services in order to directly verify the improvement of 5G services and to verify the items discussed at the meeting.
