Zhongke Microcommunication's 5G NR small base station based on Picotech PC802 baseband SoC passes the operator's live network test

The operator's live network test fully verified that the PC802 PHY SoC and the 5G small base station developed based on it have the commercial deployment and delivery capabilities.

Hangzhou, China, February 21, 2023 - Picocom, a provider of 5G small cell baseband chips and carrier-grade software, announced today that its integrated 5G NR small cell products equipped with its PC802 small cell baseband/physical layer (PHY) system-on-chip (SoC) have recently passed the live network test of Chinese operators . The test results show that Picocom's PC802 PHY SoC has the ability to support the 5G NR base station industry ecosystem, and the software and hardware maturity of equipment manufacturers of 5G NR base station products developed based on Picocom's PC802 chip has reached the commercial deployment and delivery capabilities of the network.

This live network test used a 5G NR integrated small base station system developed by Chengdu Zhongke Micro Communication Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Zhongke Micro Communication). The test was carried out by the operator in Nanjing on the live network. The small base station used a general ARM multi-core processor, PC802 baseband SoC processor, transceiver and RF integrated All in One design, working in the BAND B41 2515-2675MHz frequency band, supporting 100MHz working bandwidth. At the same time, third-party 4/5G base stations running in the live network were used to carry out interoperability tests between different manufacturers.

This live network test conducted a comprehensive test and verification of the PC802 PHY SoC and the small base station equipment using this chip. The test items included wireless coverage capability, service access reliability, mobility switching reliability and performance, TCP data service capability, control plane delay index, user plane large and small packet transmission delay index, 4/5G heterogeneous system and heterogeneous manufacturer mobility interoperability reliability, VoNR voice service capability, VoNR heterogeneous manufacturer interoperability mobility retention capability, and 5G voice fallback 4G heterogeneous manufacturer interoperability.

The test results show that the integrated 5G base station of Zhongkewei Communication based on the Picocom PC802 PHY SoC platform can meet the continuous coverage service quality requirements of telecom-grade mobile communication indoor scenarios. At the same time, the access success rate, mobility interoperability between third-party 4/5G base stations, VoNR call success rate, and end-to-end delay indicators all meet the telecom-grade service quality requirements, and the TCP data service uplink and downlink throughput indicators are better than the test target values.

Luo Wen, Vice President of Marketing at Picochip Microelectronics (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd., said: "We are grateful to Zhongke Micro Communication for its active assistance. After completing the operator laboratory test in December last year, we completed this live network test, which fully verified the functions and performance of the 5G NR small base station based on our PC802. The results of the laboratory and live network tests prove that Picochip's PC802 PHY SoC chip technology is mature, and the solutions and 5G NR small base station products based on our chips are also capable of commercial deployment and delivery, which will quickly support the construction of a new industrial ecosystem."

At the 2023 Mobile World Congress (MWC 23) to be held in Barcelona, Spain from February 27 to March 2, 2023 , Picocom will exhibit 5G/4G small base station system equipment developed by nearly ten Chinese and foreign customers based on PC802 PHY SoC, including the 5G NR integrated small base station product of Zhongke Micro Communication that has passed the operator's live network test this time; in addition, Picocom will also showcase its integrated 4G/5G dual-mode small base station and other innovative technologies at MWC23.
