Picotech PC802 5G small base station SoC and Shiju Networks 5G protocol stack are connected
Hangzhou, China - September 2022 - Picocom, a provider of 5G small base station baseband chips and carrier-grade software, announced that its PC802, the industry's first 4G/5G small base station baseband chip (SoC) designed to meet standards including Open RAN, has recently completed docking and debugging with the 5G protocol stack of Shiju Networks, once again confirming the value that PC802 can provide to partners such as 5G small base station equipment developers and protocol stack software providers, including high performance, high economy and low power consumption. 5G small base station products based on this baseband SoC can meet the diverse and evolving needs of the mobile communications market with excellent comprehensive performance and diversified forms.
Picotech PC802 Small Base Station Baseband SoC
The PC802, which was launched in December 2021 and immediately adopted by dozens of customers, is the industry's first 4G/5G small base station SoC designed specifically for 5G NR. The device has powerful functions, optimized performance, high flexibility and lower power consumption. Currently, nearly 10 small base station equipment manufacturers have used this device to complete 5G small base station design and make calls. At the same time, PC802 has won multiple industry awards for its outstanding performance, including the Global Small Base Station Forum's "Outstanding Innovation Award for Small Base Station Network Chips and Components".
Guangzhou Shiju Network Technology Co., Ltd. (Shiju Network for short) is a high-tech enterprise focusing on the research and development of wireless broadband access solutions and platforms. The company's 5G protocol stack platform supports L2 and L3 processing, and connects to the Picocom PC802 baseband SoC chip through the standard FAPI interface to complete L1 processing. The overall 5G small base station solution based on the respective technical and product advantages of both parties has realized the access of 5G commercial terminals and opened up end-to-end data links. The launch of this joint 5G small base station solution based on Picocom PC802 baseband SoC and Shiju Network 5G protocol stack software will bring more choices to mobile communication equipment manufacturers.
"We are very pleased to have in-depth cooperation with Shiju Networks and achieve interoperability with Shiju Networks' 5G protocol stack on the single-baseband chip 5G small base station solution based on our PC802 baseband SoC, which once again verifies that the 5G small base station system based on PC802 SoC has the characteristics of high performance, low power consumption and high flexibility. "Previously, Picocom has achieved docking with Radisys, and the cooperation has now achieved 4-antenna transceiver (4T4R) and achieved a stable full rate. Luo Wen, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development of Picocom Microelectronics (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd. said. "In the future, our two parties will continue to deepen cooperation and make full use of our technology research and development and market support system in China to help mobile communication equipment manufacturers develop small base station products quickly and efficiently, and support operators to meet the needs of different application scenarios through customization and other means."
Protocol layer connection architecture between Shiju and Picochi
The 5G protocol stack of Shiju Networks is a fully open and complete solution, which includes PHY adaptation layer, radio resource management (RRM), self-organizing network (SON), OAM, and L2 and L3 that meet 3GPP regulations, and is easy to customize. Currently, it cooperates with many leading chip suppliers, third-party PHY solution suppliers and third-party hardware ODM manufacturers in the market, including Picocom, to provide solutions that can be quickly put into the market using a complete integration and verification process.
"As a world-leading 5G small base station technology company, Shiju Networks has taken the lead in building a fully open architecture 5G protocol stack enabling platform. The successful integration of our 5G protocol stack with the Picocom PC802 baseband SoC platform fully demonstrates the high performance, openness and flexibility of both parties' products." said Liao Qifeng, Chief Technology Officer of Guangzhou Shiju Network Technology Co., Ltd. "In the future, both parties will continue to optimize the overall solution to better meet the network function requirements of domestic and foreign operators' standards and specifications, while providing more innovative technology and service support to common customers and partners in terms of customized R&D, response support and solution diversity, speeding up the time to market for customers' products and providing more and better 5G small base station products to the global market."
Picotech PC802 can provide complete physical layer (PHY) functions for multi-carrier, dual-mode NR/LTE small base stations in a single chip, thereby significantly reducing the capital expenditure and operation and maintenance costs of 5G small base station deployment, and providing solid support for small base station equipment developers and operators to provide customized 5G small base stations and communication services according to usage scenarios. It can support all important standard interfaces to help drive open networks. The inherent flexibility of the chip enables it to support a variety of application scenarios, thereby enabling small base stations with different networking structures, performance requirements, and standards that meet Open RAN.
