MediaTek Filogic provides high-speed, reliable and stable wireless connections, bringing the next-generation Wi-Fi 7 experience
On May 23, 2022, MediaTek released the Wi-Fi 7 wireless connectivity platform solutions - Filogic 880 and Filogic 380 , providing high-bandwidth applications for operators, retail, commercial and consumer electronics markets. These two chips are MediaTek's first complete Wi-Fi 7 solutions in the world, helping device manufacturers create products with advanced wireless connectivity technology.
Filogic 880 is a complete platform that combines Wi-Fi 7 network access points (wireless APs) with advanced network processors, providing industry-leading router and gateway solutions for carriers, retail and commercial markets. The platform provides a scalable architecture that supports five-band 4x4 MIMO and network speeds of up to 36Gbps.
Filogic 380 is designed to enable a wide range of wireless terminal devices such as smartphones, tablets, TVs, laptops, set-top boxes and OTT streaming devices through Wi-Fi 7 technology. In addition, MediaTek also provides corresponding platform solutions that can be optimized for these devices "out of the box", which helps to simplify the design process, significantly improve performance and shorten the product launch cycle.
“MediaTek Filogic wireless connectivity solutions are committed to driving the broader market development prospects of Wi-Fi 7 technology by providing high-performance platforms with advanced technologies,” said Haojun Xu, Vice President and General Manager of MediaTek’s Smart Connectivity Business Unit. “With Filogic 880 and Filogic 380, customers can create a high-speed, highly reliable, stable and always-on wireless connection experience to meet the growing demand for high-bandwidth applications.”
Filogic 880 is a Wi-Fi 7 wireless AP solution built on a 6nm process. The platform not only supports Wi-Fi 7, but also has a powerful application processor, including a quad-core Arm Cortex-A73, and an advanced network processing unit, which supports higher wireless, Ethernet rates and packet processing performance. The chip provides a wide range of interface and peripheral support to help device manufacturers achieve diversified product designs. The main features of Filogic 880 include:
• Supports key Wi-Fi 7 technologies such as 4096-QAM, 320MHz, MRU and MLO
• Flexibly expandable to five frequency bands, network speed up to 36Gbps
• Single channel network speed can reach 10Gbps
• Support OFDMA RU, MU-MIMO and MBSSID
• Integrated advanced network hard acceleration engine (Network Off-load Engine)
• Integrated network encryption engine (EIP-197) to accelerate IPSec, SSL/TLS, DTLS (CAPWAP), SRTP and MACsec technologies
• Supports high-speed interfaces (5Gbps USB and 10Gbps PCI-Express), UART, SD, SPI, PWM, GPIO and OTP, providing a rich variety of options
Filogic 380 is a wireless connectivity system-on-chip that integrates Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3. It uses a 6nm process and has excellent network connectivity performance. In addition, it is optimized for many consumer electronics products equipped with MediaTek platforms, such as smartphones, tablets, TVs, laptops, set-top boxes, OTT streaming devices, etc. The main features of Filogic 380 include:
• Supports key Wi-Fi 7 technologies such as 4096-QAM, 320MHz, MRU and MLO
• Support MLO, network speed can reach 6.5Gbps
• Single channel network speed can reach 5Gbps
• Supports 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz network bands
• Supports dual parallel 2x2 MIMO and simultaneous dual-band capabilities
• Support Bluetooth 5.3 and LE Audio
MediaTek has been actively involved in the development of the Wi-Fi 7 standard since its inception and is one of the first companies to adopt the technology. The launch of Wi-Fi 7 marks the first time that Wi-Fi will be able to replace high-bandwidth wired/Ethernet technology. MediaTek's Wi-Fi 7 technology will provide powerful core network capabilities for home, commercial and industrial networks, providing seamless connectivity for applications such as multi-person AR/VR applications, cloud gaming, 4K video calls and 8K streaming.
MediaTek will showcase its MediaTek Filogic Wi-Fi 7 platform solutions for wireless AP and wireless terminal ecosystems at Computex 2022 , which will be held from May 24 to May 27 .
