Has China surpassed the United States in 5G? Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf recently told Bloomberg that in terms of technology, it has not yet, but China has made rapid progress in 5G deployment, especially in base station construction. This is the first time in history that China and the United States have been on par with each other. In the past, it would have been two or five years slower.
On November 19, at Qualcomm's analyst day, a Bloomberg reporter asked Qualcomm's CEO, "Do you think China has surpassed the United States in 5G?" Qualcomm's CEO replied, "I don't think it has from a technical perspective." But in terms of 5G deployment, especially base station construction, China's development is really fast. I have said before that China will build 130,000 base stations by the end of this year and 1 million base stations next year. If you compare this number with what you see in the United States, it is a very large number, but it does not mean that the United States is not developing fast, but this is the first time in history that China can keep pace with the United States. In the past, it would be 2 or 5 years slower.
Qualcomm previously announced that the 4th Snapdragon Technology Summit will be held on Maui, Hawaii from December 3 to 5. The invitation letter reads "Say "Aloha" to the future of 5G and more", which means that 5G will be the focus of this summit, and the upcoming "Snapdragon 865" may be launched in both 5G and 4G versions.
