"AIoT is not a simple connection, but a device that provides homeowners with a more convenient lifestyle," said Li Haiqing, director of Changhong Multimedia Product Planning Department, in an interview with media including PingWest.
"AIoT devices such as TVs are not simple machines, but family partners. What we hope for is an invisible integration," he added.
2018 was the year with the most intense competition in China's color TV market, and it was also a key year for Changhong to fully develop its AI field. The gradual growth of Changhong's CHiQ artificial intelligence TV series has given Changhong absolute voice in the AIoT field.
The first generation of Changhong CHiQ AI TV was launched in July 2016 (the Changhong CHiQ TV series started in 2014), when the smart TV market had already matured. According to iMedia Research, the sales volume of smart TVs in China reached 40.98 million in 2016, but remote control was still the main way to control TVs at that time, and voice interaction was only in its early stages. The introduction of Changhong AI technology enables smart TVs to adapt, self-learn, and self-grow, truly freeing users' hands.
Today, Changhong has released the CHiQ AI TV Q6K, officially bringing the AI TV industry into the AI 4.0 era. AI TVs not only serve as control centers, but will also be an indispensable partner in the home. As Li Haiqing emphasized: "AIoT devices are not cold machines, they can also be empathetic."
Changhong booth at CITE 2019
At the recently concluded CITE 2019, Changhong demonstrated its AI-based smart home scenario, aiming to build CHiQ TV into a home control center to achieve interconnection, communication, mutual control and content interaction between different smart products in the home, thereby promoting the implementation of smart homes.
AIoT layout with TV as the center of the home
Compared with other manufacturers, Changhong has a more difficult time on the road to smart home and intelligent home, but it is also more confident, and this confidence comes from television.
Television has always been the lifeblood of Changhong, whether in the CRT era or the LCD or OLED era. The 20-year record of being the domestic TV sales champion has accumulated rich experience and a high-quality product chain for Changhong. Although the increasingly fierce market competition in recent years has forced Changhong to change its strategy and expand its product line (the acquisition of Meiling is one of the strategies), television is still Changhong's trump card.
Choosing TV as the control center of the smart home is Changhong’s best choice, but also the “worst” choice.
Compared with the smart speaker as the home control center, the design with the smart TV as the core obviously has many more things to consider. For example, the TV is usually placed in the living room, but some smart devices (such as curtains and lighting equipment) appear in the bedroom, which results in a long transmission distance between the control center and the controlled device.
In this regard, Li Haiqing said, "In the future, the control of the home Internet of Things will most likely be multi-center control, with speakers controlling the bedroom, TVs controlling the living room, gas stoves or refrigerators controlling the kitchen, and even bathrooms having control centers. However, the home control center and multi-center control are not contradictory. This leads to the concept of a sub-center and a main center. The smart speaker can control all smart devices in the bedroom, but as a sub-center it is connected to the TV main center."
"Compared to smart speakers and other devices, the biggest advantage of TV is that it can display both sound and image interactions. It is also the IoT device with the strongest processing power in the home besides the computer. We hope to build the TV into the main control center of the home and connect it to more sub-centers."
Changhong booth at CITE 2019
In order to accelerate the layout of home Internet of Things, Changhong's other identity is a chip manufacturer.
PingWest learned that Changhong's Ailink Technology currently has a monthly production capacity of 12 million modules of various types, and has provided communication module solutions for more than 200 million IoT devices distributed around the world.
Some analysts pointed out that "Changhong has firmly grasped the tool for accelerating innovation in smart homes through its accumulation and innovation in AI technology research and development."
In addition to the limitation of transmission distance, standby at any time is another key point of smart home control center. Compared with smart speakers, the 7 x 24-hour standby of TV seems unrealistic. The greater standby power consumption and the garbage generated by the Android system will have a great impact on the user experience.
"This is a problem we considered from the beginning when designing the AI TV," Li Haiqing said frankly. "The state stipulates that a TV must be in true standby mode if it consumes less than 0.5W. Changhong CHiQ AI TV currently does this. It can remain activated and awakened at any time, but it cannot process complex commands because the power consumption is too low. For this reason, Changhong has designed another home IoT usage mode, which consumes less than 5W and can provide more powerful complex command processing."
"The operation of the Android system will generate a lot of garbage, and the life of components and software reliability are the guarantee of long standby. Changhong has been solving these problems step by step." It is reported that the service life of Changhong artificial intelligence TV is 80,000 to 100,000 hours. If you watch it for 10 hours a day, it is more than 20 years.
In order to better and faster deploy the AIoT field, Changhong has cooperated with many manufacturers including Xiaomi, JD.com, and Huawei. Changhong smart TVs can control more devices of more brands, win more partners and consumers with a more open and inclusive attitude, and provide consumers with a wider range of choices. You can use Changhong TVs, Xiaomi sweeping robots, LIFAair air purifiers...
8K dual-plane, self-sounding screen, the innovation of TV will never end
"Humanity's pursuit of screen size and clarity is endless!" When talking about 8K and screen size, Li Haiqing said, "At present, the basic size of TVs has been upgraded to 55 inches. However, due to the size limitations of LCD and OLED panels, larger TVs (90 inches/100 inches and above) are more likely to be solved by laser TVs. However, laser TVs cannot currently meet the requirements of high resolutions, and 8K TVs are still mainly based on LCD and OLED panels."
At CITE 2019, Changhong showed us many innovative home appliances such as 8K dual flat-screen TVs, 100-inch 4K laser TVs, "all-thin" refrigerators, voiceprint sensing air conditioners, and CHiQ life smart home solutions.
CHiQ 8K Dual Flat Screen TV ARTIST Series
The CHiQ 8K dual-panel TV ARTIST series innovatively removes the "small backpack" at the back of traditional TVs, making the back of the TV also a flat surface, which can be attached to the wall to the maximum extent. This design of "leading technological innovation in the TV industry" is also the reason why Changhong ARTIST TV won the CES 2019 Global Best Smart TV Industrial Design Award.

"ARTIST TV solves the pain point of wall-mounted TVs. In the past, no matter how thin the TV was, there would be at least 50mm gap when it was hung on the wall. ARTIST TV has solved this problem through technological breakthroughs, achieving zero-distance contact with the wall. What you see is what you get, this is the effect we spent two years trying to show consumers," Li Haiqing explained to the reporters present. "The speakers under the ARTIST TV have a variety of design styles, including marble and wood grain (can be customized, Changhong hopes to open up customized homes in the future). We hope that the design of Changhong TV will not destroy the overall decoration and become a decoration that blends into the home environment."
In addition to its outstanding industrial design, Changhong ARTIST TV still has AIoT in its blood, and supports Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and HDR technology, bringing a more immersive audio-visual effect. 8K technology will help Changhong achieve breakthroughs in content, technology, and other aspects, leading the 8K trend.

Another product that also won the CES 2019 Award is the three-color 4K laser TV C7UT.
Changhong's pioneering ESS (Excited Sound Screen technology) laser display optical screen self-sounding system solves the problem of integrated design of high-quality sound system and screen. It no longer requires traditional speakers, but uses electromagnetic drivers to convert electrical signals into mechanical vibrations, and mechanically (the vibration sounding method of musical instruments or vocal cords) stimulates the screen to produce sound. On the basis of truly restoring the sound of musical instruments and human voices, it produces a more uniform and larger sound field than traditional speakers, realizes full-band non-directional propagation, integrates sound and picture, and brings a better audio-visual experience.
"Although the current smart TV market is highly homogenized, Changhong has always had its own innovations. First, breakthroughs in form, such as the ARTIST TV; second, improvement in sound quality. We use the solution delivered after the overall design by the Harman Kardon Golden Ear team; third, 8K TV. Currently, Changhong's 8K TV is the third generation product (the first two generations were not launched on the market because they did not achieve the expected results), and the effect is already very good; fourth, the laser TV pioneered the self-sounding screen, which allows sound and picture to be integrated," Li Haiqing told us.
