Autonomous vehicle company Zoox today announced that it has expanded its robotaxi service in Las Vegas , marking the latest development in the self-driving taxi space. The news comes as Zoox’s robotaxi service has been approved on California public roads and has already begun serving California employees.
Zoox's robot taxis are different from competitors with traditional car chassis. They are designed from the ground up to provide a comfortable passenger experience. Each vehicle is equipped with comfort controls, including seat adjustment, USB power ports, drink holders, etc., and has an emergency button to ensure the safety of passengers. At the same time, Zoox's vehicles adopt an omnidirectional design, without a steering wheel, and passengers sit face to face, providing passengers with a more comfortable and social riding experience.
As Zoox expands its operations in Las Vegas, its robotaxi service will operate within a five-mile radius, covering more complex road environments, including three-lane roads, more difficult lane changes, unprotected right turns into highways, and right and left turns in dual lanes. Zoox's engineering team is continuously validating the functionality and safety of vehicle operations to ensure that the vehicle can handle a variety of complex situations.
Meanwhile, competitor Cruise has faced a series of challenges, including layoffs, technical problems, and safety investigations. Although Cruise plans to continue to expand its business, it has encountered a series of difficulties. In contrast, Zoox has taken the lead through its innovative design and rigorous testing, and has made significant progress in the field of self-driving taxis.
“Becoming the first company to operate passenger-only robotaxis on open public roads in California is a major milestone for Zoox and the autonomous vehicle industry as a whole,” said Aicha Evans, CEO of Zoox.
As Zoox expands its operations in Las Vegas and begins serving employees in California, expectations and interest in self-driving taxis are growing. As a leader in this field, Zoox will continue to drive technological innovation to provide passengers with a safer, more comfortable and convenient travel experience.
