The 18th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition kicked off. With the theme of "Co-create a Better Life", this year's auto show will deeply integrate automobiles with intelligent networking, big data, artificial intelligence and other technologies, so that cars, as the next generation of new smart terminals, can not only meet people's travel needs, but also become partners in smart life. During the period, Qualcomm, Great Wall Motors, China Unicom, and Quectel Communications announced that they will introduce support for 5G and LTE-V2X in Great Wall Motors' future models. The four parties will use the Snapdragon Automotive 5G platform to introduce 5G technology into smart networked transportation and smart cars, setting a new benchmark for the industry and enhancing competitiveness.

This year is the first year of 5G commercialization, and people are expecting this innovative technology to bring a new look to traditional fields, including automobiles. Miao Wei, Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, also recently stated that compared with 4G, the application scope of 5G will be greatly expanded, among which the Internet of Vehicles will be an important application. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is working with the Ministry of Transport to actively promote the digital and intelligent transformation of China's highway system and use 5G technology to give full play to the advantages of vehicle-road collaboration.

As a world-leading wireless communication technology and semiconductor manufacturer, Qualcomm is also leading the way to 5G with its long-term professional accumulation in the fields of 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi. At the same time, it continues to expand its expertise in the field of connection technology to other fields, including automotive technology. Qualcomm has been providing technical solutions to the automotive industry for more than 15 years, working with industry-leading automakers and Tier 1 suppliers to provide them with innovative automotive solutions. Relying on its expertise in 5G and LTE-V2X, Qualcomm is committed to working with automotive partners to transform the automotive experience.

Regarding the cooperation with Great Wall Motors during the auto show, Sun Gang, vice president of product marketing at Qualcomm Technologies, said: "Qualcomm Technologies has been committed to providing the most advanced automotive connectivity solutions to meet the growing demand for safer and smarter cars in the Chinese market. We look forward to this four-party strategic cooperation with Great Wall Motors, Quectel and China Unicom, and we also look forward to the opportunities that this four-party cooperation will bring to the Snapdragon Automotive 5G Platform - that is, it will play a key role in supporting the launch of the next generation of 5G and LTE-V2X vehicles in the Chinese market."

The Snapdragon Automotive 5G Platform is one of the main technical platforms of the four-party cooperation. The platform is a new solution launched by Qualcomm Technologies at this year's MWC. It provides low-latency multi-gigabit transmission speeds, lane-level navigation accuracy, and a complete integrated C-V2X solution. It can not only enrich the in-vehicle experience and improve the safety of cars and transportation infrastructure, but also help promote the entry of connected cars into the 5G era. The Snapdragon Automotive 5G Platform complies with the 3GPP Release 15 specification. It makes full use of the latest 5G New Radio (5G NR) technology innovations and solutions released by Qualcomm Technologies at the beginning of this year, supporting FDD and TDD networks as well as independent networking (SA) and non-independent networking (NSA) operations. In addition, the Snapdragon Automotive 5G Platform also supports a variety of emerging travel service models, and pioneered dual-SIM dual-pass support in the automotive platform to allow cars and drivers to select services from different network operators respectively, and can be managed through remote service configuration.

The industry generally believes that the trend of the intelligent connected car industry is electrification, intelligence, networking and sharing. Qualcomm has also been cooperating with a wide range of automotive industry chains, hoping to change people's travel experience through the company's breakthrough technology. At present, Qualcomm has become the number one semiconductor manufacturer for onboard information processing and Bluetooth car connection solutions. 18 of the world's top automakers have chosen Qualcomm Snapdragon Automotive Infotainment Platform. Recently, Ideal and Xiaopeng Motors, two emerging car-making forces, have also launched models equipped with the Snapdragon 820A Automotive Platform. With the energy-efficient customized Kryo CPU, Hexagon 680 DSP supporting vector extension (HVX) and Adreno 530 GPU, the Snapdragon 820A Automotive Platform can support efficient networking, intelligent in-vehicle services, and rich infotainment experience. From providing music and video streaming to supporting multiple displays with up to 4K resolution; from voice recognition commands to 3D navigation and real-time traffic updates, the Snapdragon 820A Automotive Platform and its integrated X12 LTE modem can use cloud connections to provide extraordinary infotainment experience according to user needs.

The automotive industry is experiencing amazing innovation. According to the National Development and Reform Commission's "Intelligent Vehicle Innovation and Development Strategy", by 2020, LTE-V2X coverage in large cities and highways will reach 90%. Strategy Analytics, McKinsey and other analysis agencies also predict that autonomous vehicles can save 585,000 lives and reduce 250 million hours of commuting time worldwide between 2035 and 2045; by 2050, autonomous driving will increase revenue by $7 trillion. Against this backdrop, Qualcomm will use its breakthrough technology to continue to expand ecosystem cooperation, actively promote the continuous development of the automotive industry, and transform future transportation.
