According to domestic media reports, at the "5G, Ushering in a New Era of Digital Economy" forum held during the 6th World Internet Conference, Chen Zhaoxiong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that at present, China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom have opened 86,000 5G base stations across the country, and cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hangzhou have achieved continuous coverage of 5G networks. It is expected that by the end of the year, more than 130,000 5G base stations will be opened across the country.


Yang Jie, chairman of China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd., said that by the end of 2019, 5G commercial services will be provided in more than 50 cities and more than 50,000 5G base stations will be built.


In terms of ecological construction, a 5G joint innovation center will be established with more than 500 partners; a 5G joint innovation industry fund will be established with an initial investment of 7-10 billion yuan; in terms of application innovation, 100 demonstration applications will be carried out.


Previously, Shao Guanglu, deputy general manager of China Unicom, said in an interview that the joint construction and sharing of 5G networks by China Unicom and China Telecom will not only double the 5G coverage of both parties, but also bring users greater network capacity and faster speeds.


On October 17, at the China Unicom Smart Ecosystem Cooperation Conference, China Unicom Chairman Wang Xiaochu stated that this year is the first year of 5G in China. Unicom plans to build 50,000 5G base stations. Currently, more than 28,000 5G base stations have been built and most of them have been put into operation.
