How to choose a DSP?
The selection of DSP can be determined based on the following factors:
1) Speed: DSP speed is generally expressed in MIPS or FLOPS, which is one million times per second. Choose a suitable device based on your processing speed requirements. Generally, the processing speed should not be too high. A DSP with a high speed will make the system implementation more difficult.
2) Precision: DSP chips are divided into fixed-point and floating-point processors. For processing with high precision requirements, floating-point processors can be selected. Fixed-point processors can also perform floating-point operations, but the precision and speed will be affected.
3) Addressing space: The sizes of program, data, and I/O spaces of different series of DSPs are different. Unlike ordinary MCUs, DSPs can complete multiple operations in one instruction cycle, so the instruction efficiency of DSPs is very high. There is generally no problem with program space. The key is whether the data space is sufficient. The size of the data space can be expanded with the help of DMA and the program space.
4) Cost: Generally, the cost of fixed-point DSP is lower than that of floating-point DSP, and the speed is also faster. To obtain a low-cost DSP system, try to use fixed-point algorithms and fixed-point DSP.
5) Easy to implement: The floating-point DSP structure makes it easier to implement the DSP system without having to consider the addressing space issue, and the instructions also support C language with high efficiency.
6) Internal components: Select DSP with special components according to application requirements, such as C2000 for motor control and OMAP for multimedia.
