NXP becomes first technology company to receive Car Connectivity Consortium certification, enhancing security and convenience of vehicle access through digital keys
Shanghai, China - July 19, 2024 - NXP Semiconductors NV recently announced that its single-chip NFC and embedded security element solution SN220 has passed the digital key certification launched by the Car Connectivity Consortium® (CCC) in December 2023. This marks NXP as the first digital car key solution provider to obtain this certification. NXP provides a complete set of solutions covering the complete digital car key ecosystem, including ultra-wideband (UWB), NFC chips and low-power Bluetooth®, which can be applied to the application needs of mobile device manufacturers and automobile manufacturers.
Significance
Digital car keys do more than just give drivers seamless and secure access to their cars. They also allow drivers to control car access for family members, designated drivers, and others. As this feature becomes more popular, interoperability and security are key. The CCC has more than 200 members, including leading automakers, smart device manufacturers, and technology companies. The association recently launched a certification program that complies with the CCC Digital Key specification, which aims to achieve seamless interoperability and security across the entire ecosystem of cars, mobile phones, and other hands-free car access devices.
“As a founding member of the CCC, NXP has long been a core enabler of the secure car access ecosystem,” said Michael Leitner, general manager of Smart Car Access at NXP Semiconductors . “This certification validates the specifications that will drive the development of digital keys in cars in the future. As the first solution provider to receive this certification, NXP’s fully integrated system solution will set the standard for quality and security in this fast-growing market.”
“This certification is critical to building trust among consumers and the industry, and will support auto and device manufacturers in delivering a secure, user-friendly digital key access experience,” said Alysia Johnson, president of the Car Connectivity Consortium . “Our goal is to establish global compatibility, enabling a seamless, secure digital key experience, regardless of the car or mobile device involved.”
Zhang Shuxiao, Senior Director of Xiaomi Connectivity said: "Xiaomi's top priority is to ensure an excellent user experience. The SN220 has excellent performance and CCC-certified interoperability, which is very important to us and is in line with Xiaomi's commitment to providing new and interesting innovations to users."
More details
The SN220 is a converged solution that combines an NFC controller with an embedded secure element in a single chip as part of a holistic digital key system solution. NXP’s digital key not only includes a secure element and NFC, but also leverages UWB and Bluetooth Low Energy to ensure a consistent and seamless user experience.
