Recently, Synopsys officially released a blog titled "Welcome to the era of software-defined cars" on the occasion of 2024 CES.
Streaming video, voice-activated operations, and various applications—these seem to be functions of smartphones, but they are actually also applicable to modern cars. Welcome to the era of software-defined vehicles (SDV), where complex software runs on powerful hardware to deliver unprecedented interactive experiences for drivers and passengers.
Delve deeper into the inner workings of a modern car and you'll find Synapsis. From electronic design automation (EDA) solutions to automotive-compliant IP portfolios, our technologies are driving innovation in the automotive industry and shaping the future of the industry. At this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, we are working with key partners to demonstrate how to optimize automotive SoCs, accelerate SDV verification, and improve vehicle safety throughout the supply chain.
The following are the exciting moments you will be able to witness with us and our partners at CES 2024:
AWS: an accelerator for software-defined vehicle validation
At the AWS Automotive booth in the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, you'll learn how Synopsys, AWS, MathWorks, and Elektrobit are working together to accelerate SDV with Synopsys virtual prototyping and digital twin technology running on the AWS Cloud verification process. Demonstrations at the booth will showcase cloud-based testing, CI/CD, and the creation of multi-abstraction digital twins for early software development and verification.
As the software content in vehicles continues to increase, so does the risk of failure. Digital twins, as virtual platforms for systems under development, are an effective way to reduce these risks. It enables verification of complex automotive systems and ECUs early in the design cycle, before physical prototypes are available.
Continental: Leading the new trend in vehicle software verification
Our cooperation with Continental enables engineers to virtually develop, test and verify vehicle software for new SoCs in the cloud, speeding up the traditional process by up to 18 months. Continental has integrated our virtual prototyping solution for virtual electronic control units (vECU) into its cloud-based development framework at the Automotive Edge (CAEdge). This allows engineers to start software development without waiting for a physical chip, thereby gaining an edge in the entire development cycle and mitigating software-related risks as early as possible. Continental will demonstrate its CAEdge technology in the concourse across from the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Microsoft and Cognata: Working together to promote faster development of autonomous driving systems
Autonomous driving systems are one of many automotive systems that can benefit from digital twins to accelerate development and validation. Synopsys’ digital twin technology, including our vECU virtual prototyping solution, is being integrated with Cognata’s SimCloud digital twin-based simulation platform for AI-based training, testing and validation. SimCloud runs on Microsoft Azure and is part of Microsoft's reference SDV development toolchain.
Cognata will demonstrate its Synopsys-enabled solutions at the Microsoft Experience Center at the Wynn Hotel during CES. The demonstration will demonstrate complete virtualization of traditional hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) tasks in a cloud environment. With Synopsys virtual ECU solutions, Cognata SimCloud and Microsoft's SDV cloud infrastructure, automotive engineers can shift their AI-based autonomous driving system training and verification work left (upfront).
In addition to the above, Synopsys will be conducting demonstrations with NXP at the NXP Pavilion and with Arm and Aurora Labs at the Venetian Hotel.
Beyond the Boundaries of Automotive: Other Highlights from CES 2024
Synopsys' appearance at CES 2024 is not limited to the automotive field. Packetcraft, the global leader in Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) IP, today announced that it has integrated Bluetooth 5.4 host software with Synopsys Bluetooth LE radio and link layer controller IP to provide a complete solution from RF to application. Packetcraft executives will be at CES to discuss collaboration with Synopsys and the latest Bluetooth innovations, including LE Audio, Auracast™ Broadcast Audio, Bluetooth 5.4 with PAwR and other emerging trends and technologies.
In addition, Synopsys Chief Security Officer Deirdre Hanford will participate in the CES 2024 "Next Generation Semiconductors and Their Application Trends" panel discussion.
