On the evening of September 8, BYD's new e-platform 3.0 was released in Shenzhen. What is the difference between the new e-platform 3.0? BYD President Wang Chuanfu explained at the meeting that if BYD e-platform 1.0 realized the platformization of key components of the three electrics, and BYD e-platform 2.0 realized the modularization of key vehicle systems, the new BYD e-platform 3.0 realized the platformization of the entire vehicle architecture, giving full play to the advantages of electrification and intelligence. After 18 years of innovation and iteration, this platform is regarded by BYD as the cradle of the next generation of electric vehicles.


Judging from last night’s press conference, the highlights of e-platform 3.0 are concentrated in four aspects: safety, battery life, intelligence, and design.



Battery-body integration


The e-platform 3.0 models will be equipped with blade batteries as standard, and the blade batteries will be integrated into the entire body to create a transmission path exclusive to pure electric vehicles, so that the rigidity of the entire vehicle is further strengthened and it has a "super five-star" safety standard. The strength that is difficult to achieve on top fuel vehicles can be easily achieved on models built on the e-platform 3.0, making the upper limit of the structural strength of fuel vehicles the lower limit of pure electric vehicles.



The maximum range will exceed 1000km


In terms of battery life, the world's first eight-in-one electric powertrain is standard, with a maximum driving range of over 1,000 km; the world's first electric drive boost fast charging technology, which can charge for 5 minutes and has a maximum driving range of 150 km; the first direct cooling and heating technology for power batteries, which can increase thermal efficiency by 20% and reduce energy loss; the wide temperature range and high-efficiency heat pump system breaks the boundaries of traditional thermal management systems, and can make full use of the environment, powertrain, and even the waste heat of the passenger compartment and power battery, giving equal importance to increasing revenue and saving, and can achieve a wide range of operating temperatures from -30°C to 60°C, increasing the winter range by up to 20%; the new electric four-wheel drive power system can accelerate from 0 to 100 km in as fast as 2.9 seconds.



Upgrading is more than just software


In terms of intelligence, the intelligent domain control architecture includes the power domain, vehicle control domain, cockpit domain and driving domain. These four aspects can be upgraded separately. In other words, if users buy products developed based on e-platform 3.0 in the future, BYD can provide upgrades for the car like mobile phones, and these upgrades are not just software upgrades. Because e-platform 3.0 has standardized interfaces, it means that hardware can also be upgraded. At the same time, BYD has independently developed the BYD OS operating system for cars, which can efficiently output execution commands and give full play to the control and response advantages of electric vehicles. The open software and hardware interfaces can flexibly configure the world's top intelligent driving solutions.



More futuristic design


In terms of design, through efficient integration, the shackles of vehicle space and overall layout in the design are broken, bringing new imagination to aesthetic design. A heavyweight concept car, oceanX, was released on the scene. The car is built on the e-platform 3.0 platform, equipped with blade batteries, body-battery integrated design, eight-in-one powertrain, four-wheel drive architecture, electric drive boost charging, wide temperature range high-efficiency heat pump and intelligent domain control architecture. Compared with pure electric models on the market, it has a qualitative improvement in safety, endurance, charging, intelligence and design.
