At present, the shortage of automotive chips has become a recognized problem in the global automotive industry. Multinational global automakers such as Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen, and General Motors have also had to limit or reduce production to cope with the chip shortage. Global automakers such as Volkswagen have been hit even harder in China.

Recently, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess said in an interview with CNBC: "We are losing the Chinese market due to chip shortages."

In fact, Diess is not exaggerating. The sales data of Volkswagen Group has been falling sharply. According to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, my country's automobile sales in the first half of the year were 12.891 million, a year-on-year increase of 25.6%.

However, in the first half of 2021, Volkswagen Group (China) delivered a total of approximately 1.85 million vehicles, accounting for 14.3% of the market share in my country. Last year, Volkswagen delivered 3.85 million new vehicles in China, with a market share of 19.3%.

According to SAIC Group's first-half financial report for 2021, SAIC Volkswagen's vehicle sales have declined significantly, with cumulative sales in the first half of the year reaching 542,400 units, a year-on-year decrease of 7.79%. The growth rate is negative, far exceeding the average level of the domestic automobile industry.

In response to this matter, Herbert Diess said: "We will change our sales strategy in China."
