Near the end of the year, the latest batch of "Announcement on Road Motor Vehicle Production Enterprises and Products" (338th batch) (hereinafter referred to as the "Announcement") is full of highlights.
Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the 338th batch of "Announcement", which approved 223 vehicle models, including 39 new energy passenger cars, 71 new energy buses, and 113 new energy special-purpose vehicles.
In terms of power type, there are 184 pure electric vehicles, 33 fuel cell vehicles, and 6 plug-in hybrid vehicles. It can be seen that in this batch of models, the number of fuel cell models reported has increased significantly.
In terms of supporting battery categories, there are 155 lithium iron phosphate batteries , 30 ternary batteries, 33 fuel cells, and the rest are lithium manganese oxide batteries and lithium titanate batteries .
From the perspective of supporting battery manufacturers, CATL has the most supporting vehicle models, up to 93 models (including Jiangsu CATL); followed by BYD with 14 models, EVE Power and Penghui Energy with 12 models each, Lishen Battery with 9 models, Guoxuan High-tech and Anchi New Energy with 6 models each, Xingying Technology with 5 models, and Shanghai Reshape with 4 models.
According to Battery China, there are several points worth noting in the 338th batch of "Announcement", which may have a significant impact on the future car market:
First, Tesla (Shanghai) Model Y is here.
The performance of the power battery of the Model Y, the second model that Tesla will soon mass produce at its Shanghai factory, was also officially unveiled. The "Announcement" shows that the energy density of the Model Y battery system is 161Wh/kg and the battery pack capacity is 77kWh, both of which are exactly the same as the Tesla (Shanghai) long-range Model 3. It can be speculated that the Tesla (Shanghai) Model Y still uses the power battery provided by LG Chem.
There are also reports that Tesla (Shanghai) factory has reconsidered using Panasonic to supply batteries, which are expected to be supplied to Model Y.
According to previous news, Tesla (Shanghai) plans to mass-produce 250,000 Model Y vehicles in 2021.
Second, the number of fuel cell vehicle models reported has increased significantly, and passenger cars continue to be included.
The 338th batch of "Announcement" has a total of 33 fuel cell vehicles on the list, which is a significant increase compared with the past. As the policy of financial subsidies (awards instead of subsidies) for fuel cell vehicles becomes clearer, and various regions have formed groups to apply for demonstration city clusters, it is expected that the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle market will see a rapid increase in volume next year, so the enthusiasm of various car companies and fuel cell companies to apply has also increased significantly.
The Announcement shows that more than ten automakers, including Zhengzhou Yutong, Dongfeng Motor, Beiqi Foton, Foshan Feichi, Xiamen Golden Dragon, Nanjing Golden Dragon, SAIC Maxus, Chery, and FAW Bus, have fuel cell models that have passed the review. In terms of battery matching, 22 fuel cell manufacturers participated in the matching, of which Shanghai Reshape matched 4 models, SinoHytec and Guangdong Hongli each matched 3 models.
It is worth mentioning that after SAIC Maxus first applied for a fuel cell multi-purpose passenger car in the 337th batch of "Announcement", GAC Passenger Car also applied for a fuel cell passenger car in the 338th batch of "Announcement", and the supporting battery company was Xinyuan Power.
Third, the new force WM Motor has also joined the battery swap army and launched the battery swap version of WM EX5.
The "Announcement" shows that the new car-making force WM Motor has also launched a battery-swap version of new energy passenger cars. Since the beginning of this year, the battery-swap model has been favored by policies, and many car companies have joined the battery-swap camp.
Fourth, electric bicycle manufacturers are crossing over to make cars, targeting the microcar market.
The popularity of SAIC-GM-Wuling Hongguang MINI has made many automakers realize how big the market for micro electric vehicles is. In the 338th batch of "Announcements", Brilliance Xinri, a joint venture between Xinri and Brilliance, applied for an electric vehicle with an internal code name of W32H, and the battery supporting enterprise is Far East Battery Jiangsu Co., Ltd.

New energy passenger vehicles: system energy density up to 194Wh/kg CATL for 12 models
In the 338th batch of "Announcement", there are 39 new energy passenger car models, including 38 electric models and 1 hydrogen fuel cell model.
From the perspective of supporting battery manufacturers, CATL has the most passenger car models, reaching 12; Henan Lithium New Energy has 3 models, Guoxuan High-tech, Nortel Este (Jiangsu) and Do-Fluoride each have 2 models.
In terms of battery categories, there are 24 types of ternary batteries, 14 types of lithium iron phosphate batteries, and 1 type of fuel cell.
In this batch, the battery pack with the highest energy density is produced by Nortel AEST (Jiangsu) for the BAIC BluePark ARCFOX αS model, with a system energy density of 194Wh/kg. It is understood that Nortel AEST (Jiangsu) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Beijing Electric Control Aisike Technology Co., Ltd., a joint venture between SKI and Nortel New Energy. Currently, all the batteries mass-produced by Nortel AEST (Jiangsu) Changzhou Factory are NCM811 soft-pack batteries. It is worth mentioning that the cruising range of the ARCFOX αS model has also reached 708km, which is the best among the current passenger cars in terms of cruising range.
The new SAIC-GM-Wuling Hongguang MINI model was also unveiled in this batch. It has a range of 170km. The supporting battery company is Jiangsu Times, and the supporting battery is lithium iron phosphate battery with an energy density of only 110Wh/kg.
It is worth noting that Xinri, which currently focuses on electric light vehicles, has cooperated with Brilliance Auto to apply for a micro electric vehicle, internally codenamed W32H, and the battery comes from Far East Battery Jiangsu Co., Ltd.
It is worth mentioning that there are also fuel cell passenger cars in this batch. GAC Passenger Car has applied for an Aion LX Fuel Cell fuel cell model, which is also the second fuel cell passenger car applied for this year. The supporting battery comes from Xinyuan Power.
In addition, WM Motor, a new car manufacturer, has a battery-swap model that debuted in the 338th "Announcement". Currently, more and more car companies are entering the battery-swap field.

New energy buses: Hydrogen fuel cell BEV models have increased significantly, with CATL/EVE Power/BYD leading the way
There are 71 new energy buses in this batch, including 49 lithium iron phosphate models, 18 fuel cell models, 3 lithium titanate models, and 1 lithium manganate model.
Among the companies that provide supporting batteries for electric vehicles, CATL has 33 models, EVE Energy has 8 models, BYD has 6 models, and Yinlong New Energy has 3 models.
The number of fuel cell bus models in this batch is a highlight. As the fuel cell financial subsidy policy has become clear and the application for fuel cell demonstration city clusters has ended, the enthusiasm of various car companies to promote fuel cell models has also increased significantly. According to Battery China, there are 14 fuel cell companies providing battery support for the 18 fuel cell buses in this batch, including SinoHytec, Reshape Energy, Xiongtao Hydrogen, and Hydrogen Blue Era, each providing 2 models.
In the 338th batch of "Announcement", in addition to providing battery support for Zhuhai Guangtong, Zhongyinlong New Energy also provided lithium titanate batteries for Xiamen Jinlong's PHEV buses. According to Battery China, under the guidance of the "Energy-Saving and New Energy Vehicle Technology Roadmap (Version 2.0)" and the "New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan (2021-2035)", there is a trend of increasing the proportion of PHEV buses in various places. Lithium titanate is expected to increase in PHEV buses due to factors such as fast charging and excellent cycle performance.

In the 338th batch of "Announcement", there are 113 new energy special-purpose vehicles, including 99 pure electric models and 14 hydrogen fuel cell models.
In terms of battery types, there are 93 lithium iron phosphate batteries, 14 fuel cells, and 6 ternary batteries.
From the perspective of supporting enterprises, CATL provides 49 models, Penghui Energy 11 models, Lishen Battery 9 models, BYD 7 models, Xingying Technology/Anchi New Energy 5 models each, Yiwei Power 4 models, Guoxuan High-tech 3 models, and Reshape Energy (fuel cell) 2 models.
Fuel cells are also penetrating rapidly in the field of special-purpose vehicles. There are 14 models in this batch. BAIC Foton, Nanjing Golden Dragon, King Long United, SAIC Maxus, Foshan Feichi, and Valin have all applied for fuel cell special-purpose vehicle models.
