Automotive Ethernet, Multi-bus Data Logger, Self-driving Cars

According to foreign media reports, Magna, through its engineering subsidiary Telemotive, has launched the Bluepirat Rapid, a vehicle structure multi-bus data recorder based on automotive Ethernet. The recorder has 20 100(0)Base-T1 interfaces for testing and verifying new vehicle models, as well as numerous other interfaces such as CAN, LIN and Flexray.

Complex driver assistance systems and an increasing number of infotainment applications require an increasing amount of data to be transmitted between ECUs in new vehicle models. Therefore, modern vehicle architectures rely on automotive Ethernet that meets the IEEE 802.3 100(0)Base-T1 or BroadR-Reach standards in addition to various classic bus systems.

In the past, several different data loggers were needed to record the entire vehicle internal data communication. The Bluepirat Rapid vehicle development and test multi-bus data logger solves this problem. It uses a unified synchronous time base to record all data traffic in real time, allowing vehicle structure analysis based on automotive Ethernet. Selected data segments can be backed up individually via manually or automatically configured triggers and filters.

With just one device, it is now possible to record data traffic from up to 10 Automotive Ethernet lines, classic bus systems, standard Ethernet, USB, serial interfaces, and digital and analog inputs. With up to 3 TB of internal memory and corresponding recording performance, they can handle the large amounts of data from Automotive Ethernet.

Optional accessories such as webcams and GPS/mobile radio modules can be connected via the front connector and record to an external USB mass storage device. The data logger meets the increasingly stringent requirements of autonomous vehicles in terms of temperature range, vibration and shock resistance. The device has a compact, closed all-metal housing with no fans, rotating data storage devices or protruding parts, making it maintenance-free and rugged.
