The regulator uses small, 1µF ceramic input capacitors and 2.2µF ceramic output capacitors to deliver up to 500mA of output current. High bandwidth provides excellent transient response. The output voltage change caused by a 100mA to 500mA load current step is limited to less than 10mV using only a 2.2µF ceramic output capacitor, and the voltage change is even smaller with more output capacitance.
The device provides a logic-controlled shutdown input that reduces input current (IIN) consumption in standby mode to less than 5.5µA. Other features include soft-start to reduce inrush current, short-circuit protection, and thermal overload protection.
The MAX15030 features a BIAS input that allows a second supply to keep the LDO's internal circuitry running when the IN voltage goes to 0. Both devices operate over the -40°C to +125°C temperature range and are available in a thermally enhanced 10-pin TDFN package (3mm x 3mm) with an exposed pad for optimal power dissipation.
