Beijing, China – May 5, 2022 – Analog Devices, Inc. has introduced a new generation of 16- to 24-bit ultra-high precision successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) products that simplify complex ADC designs in instrumentation, industrial, and healthcare applications. The new high-performance SAR ADC family uses ADI's patented Easy Drive™ technology and the universal Flexi-SPI serial peripheral interface (SPI), solving system design challenges and expanding the selection of directly compatible companion products.

ADI's Easy Drive technology eliminates many traditional system-level design challenges, such as strict layout guidelines and digital interface timing requirements, and complex supporting product selection while maintaining device performance. The universal Flexi-SPI digital interface provides easy-to-meet timing requirements, simplifying host processor and ADC integration. The combination of high performance and this reimagined digital interface provides a better overall design experience while also accelerating system design cycles.

The first of the six pin-compatible SAR ADCs in this family is the 24-bit dual-channel simultaneous sampling, 2 Msps per channel AD4630-24, which has leading accuracy (INL) - rated at 0.9 ppm, 4 times better than other solutions. The AD4630-24 integrates the reference buffer and all key decoupling components into a single chip, which is 2 times denser than other solutions.

“The combination of performance and speed will result in more accurate and stable digital control loops that settle to their final set points with lower latency,” said Ray Goggin, general manager of Analog Devices’ Electronic Test and Measurement Division. “This ADC family represents an evolution of Analog Devices’ technology that further simplifies the process of designing, evaluating, and bringing digitally controlled precision instrumentation products to market faster.”

AD4630-24 SAR ADC key features :

Ultra-high accuracy: guaranteed accuracy rated at 0.9 ppm INL, typical performance 0.1 ppm

Ultra-high performance: Signal-to-noise ratio rated at 105.7 dB (typical)

Small solution size: Chip-scale ball grid array (CSP-BGA) package integrates all critical power and reference bypass capacitors to reduce board area and system component count

Wide common-mode input range: ensures compatibility with single-ended and differential input signal chains

The dual-channel AD4630-24 and single-channel AD4030-24 are available now, and four additional SAR ADCs will be introduced this year.

ADC means converting analog signals into digital signals. This is because computers cannot process continuous/analog signals and must convert continuous signals into discrete signals in order to process them correctly. There are many ways to implement ADC, but as programmers, we don't need to have too much in-depth
