QNX Software Systems, Inc., a global leader in automotive software platforms, announced today that Garmin International has selected the QNX CAR Platform to power its new K2 Platform, a next-generation infotainment solution for automakers.
The K2 platform is powerful, including multiple digital displays, on and off-board voice recognition, smartphone integration and optional embedded 4G connectivity, providing drivers with navigation, vehicle diagnostics, multiple communication options, streaming media and real-time network information services. In addition, the K2 platform is highly customizable and can be expanded to meet the needs and cost targets of OEM manufacturers.
“The K2 platform will provide customers with the unparalleled in-car user experience they have come to expect from Garmin, and the QNX CAR Platform plays a key role in helping us achieve our goal of providing world-class software reliability and the flexibility to access emerging consumer applications,” said Matt Munn, General Manager, Garmin International Automotive OEM. “QNX was the obvious choice given its proven reliability, the performance of the QNX architecture, and its global industry recognition and acceptance.”
The QNX CAR Platform for Infotainment Applications is based on QNX® technology that has been proven in tens of millions of cars. The platform is designed to provide maximum flexibility to support a wide range of application environments and smartphone platforms, and as a comprehensive platform with pre-integrated components, it also helps automotive companies create connected multimedia infotainment systems.
Other features of the Garmin K2 platform include 3D enhanced city models, MyTrends predictive service calendar, mobile SMS integration, remote customization and remote control through a portal or smartphone, etc. The platform was shortlisted for the 2013 CNET CES Best Products in the Automotive Technology category just a few days after its launch.
“We are honored and excited that Garmin International has chosen QNX to power its K2 platform to advance automotive infotainment system capabilities, providing an innovative and compelling solution for automakers and consumers,” said Derek Kuhn, vice president of sales and marketing at QNX.
