Recently, researchers have created a somatosensory control device that only needs a Wi-Fi signal to work. What's more amazing is that this device can even detect gesture commands from the next room.

As the creator of the whole device, researchers from Washington State University named it "WiSee". They said that the working principle of WiSee is not complicated. It just relies on the Doppler effect to detect the frequency change of the Wi-Fi electromagnetic reflection wave generated by the user's body movement. However, it is this ingenious design that makes WiSee free from the dependence on technologies such as cameras and infrared sensors.

Researchers at the University of Washington also revealed that although WiSee is still in the prototype stage, its recognition rate for the nine preset control gestures has reached 94%±4.6%. What is even more rare is that the Wi-Fi devices used in this somatosensory control device are all readily available products on the market.

The most "amazing" feature of WiSee is that it can detect gesture commands from the next room. According to the researchers, they have successfully conducted relevant tests in a two-bedroom apartment. If there are multiple operators at the same time, the problem can be solved by using a Wi-Fi base station equipped with multiple antennas and supporting MIMO (multiple input multiple output) features. However, scholars at the University of Washington also admit that if a recognition gesture is set for each operator, like some current somatosensory games, its accuracy may be higher.

Although WiSee is still in its infancy, its creators have envisioned many possible usage scenarios: people can use it to operate various household appliances, and even for indoor navigation and positioning.
