SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 7, 2010 – Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX11210, a single-channel, 24-bit ADC that delivers an industry-leading 23.9-bit effective resolution (ENOB) at <300μA. The higher ENOB eliminates power-hungry gain stages while achieving the highest accuracy possible from the sensor. This enables the MAX11210 to meet the tight 4-20mA loop power budget of sensors (500μA, max), an application that places a premium on power consumption and high ENOB. The MAX11210 is ideal for portable instrumentation, temperature sensors, and other precision sensor applications that require low power consumption.

The MAX11210 reduces power, cost, and size in two unique ways: It provides four general-purpose input/output (GPIO) lines and integrates analog and reference input buffer amplifiers. The four GPIO lines can be used to control an external 16-channel multiplexer, effectively converting the MAX11210 into a 16-channel ADC. Enabling multiplexer control locally eliminates up to four digital isolators. Isolation is imperative to achieve the best performance from an ultra-low-noise system. To save cost and space, the MAX11210's integrated buffering eliminates the need for external buffers or gain stages.

The MAX11210 provides output rates up to 120sps with software-programmable oversampling ratios with zero latency and up to 480sps in continuous conversion mode. Simplifying device and system calibration, the ADC automatically self-calibrates the device for offset and gain. In addition, the ADC provides user-programmable offset and gain registers for enhanced system-level calibration where needed. Other integrated features include programmable gain from 1 to 16 and 100dB (min) 50Hz or 60Hz rejection.

The MAX11210 is available in a small 16-pin QSOP package and is specified over the -40°C to 85°C extended temperature range.

Complementing the MAX11210, Maxim offers a complete family of 24-, 20-, 18-, and 16-bit ADCs in 16-pin QSOP or tiny 10-pin μMAX® packages. The μMAX packages feature a simple 2-wire serial clock input and a fixed data output interface of 120sps or 13.75sps. Evaluation (EV) kits are available for the ADCs - see the attached table for additional information.

Maxim Integrated Products is a public company that designs, manufactures and sells high-performance semiconductor products. Since its establishment 25 years ago, its mission has been to provide innovative analog and mixed-signal design solutions and value-added products for customers. To date, it has developed 6,400 products serving the fields of industry, communications, consumer electronics, and computing processing.

ATtiny13 ADC Noise Suppression Mode
When SM1..0 is 01, the SLEEP instruction will put the MCU into noise suppression mode. In this mode, the ATtiny13 CPU stops running, while the ADC, external interrupts and watchdog continue to work. This sleep mode only stops clkI/O, clkCPU and clkFLASH, and other clocks continue to work. This mode improves the noise
