The MAX4951BE dual-channel buffer is ideal for redriving Serial ATA (SATA) I, SATA II, and SATA III signals with ±8kV human body model (HBM) high-voltage electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection. The MAX4951BE can be placed anywhere on the motherboard to compensate for board losses and generate eSATA-compatible signals. The device complies with the SATA v.2.6 specification (gold standard) and compensates for losses in the PCB and eSATA connector.
The MAX4951BE features extremely low standby current, making it suitable for power-sensitive applications. The device provides hardware SATA drive cable detection to maintain extremely low standby power consumption. The device also features independent channel, dynamic power-down mode to reduce power consumption when there is no input signal.
The MAX4951BE maintains the integrity of the received signal by reconstructing the full output level and reduces the overall system jitter (TJ) through input equalization. The device features independent digital pre-emphasis control between channels to support outputs over long cable distances or to meet eSATA specifications. High-speed OOB signal detection at the input and output disable at the corresponding output support SATA out-of-band (OOB) signaling. Both inputs and outputs are internally terminated with 50Ω and must be AC-coupled to the SATA controller IC and SATA devices.
The MAX4951BE operates from a single +3.3V (typ) supply and is available in a small 4mm × 4mm TQFN package with flow-through pinouts to simplify layout. The device operates over the 0°C to +70°C temperature range.
