The MCU control register contains the control bits for power management.
· Bits 7..4 Res Reserved bits: These bits are not used in ATmega48/88/168 and the read return value is always "0".
· Bits 3, 2, 1-SM2..0: Sleep mode selection bits 2, 1 and 0. As shown in Table 18, these bits are used to select a specific sleep mode.
· Bit 0 – SE: Sleep Enable
In order for the MCU to enter sleep mode after executing the SLEEP instruction, SE must be set. To ensure that entering sleep mode is an intentional action by the programmer, it is recommended to set SE only in the instruction before the SLEEP instruction. SE is cleared immediately upon MCU wake-up.
