Atmel Semiconductor was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in the United States. It is a world leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of advanced semiconductor products, including microprocessors, programmable logic devices, non-volatile memory, security chips, mixed signal and RF radio frequency integrated circuits. Through the combination of these core technologies, ATMEL has produced a variety of general-purpose and application-specific system-level chips to meet the growing and evolving needs of today's electronic system design engineers.
AVR(r) is an 8-bit RISC microcontroller that is many times faster than traditional CISC architecture in terms of instruction and data throughput. AVR has a rich set of on-chip analog and digital peripherals, as well as in-system programmable EEPROM and FLASH memory. This greatly improves flexibility, eliminates the bottleneck of accessing external memory, and improves program and data security. The product line extends from tinyAVR(tm) (1K on-chip program FLASH) to megaAVR(tm) (128K on-chip program FLASH).
For applications that require high processing power while maintaining the lowest possible power consumption, ATMEL offers 32-bit microcontrollers based on ARM(r). This series offers a variety of memory capacities and on-chip functions to precisely meet the needs of various high-performance applications. For applications that require extremely high data bandwidth, consider 64-bit MIPS(r) products or 128-bit mAgic VLIW (very long instruction word) signal processor cores.
ATMEL has a wide range of microcontrollers based on the 80C51 structure, including FLASH versions, OTP versions and ROM versions that can be programmed online. It also provides advanced on-chip peripheral functions, such as CAN bus controllers, USB controllers, MP3 decoders, and smart card interfaces. ATMEL can also provide highly reliable microcontrollers for military and space applications based on the Motorola PowerPC(r) structure.
