Because the administrator okhxyyo posted a post a few days ago, " Speaking of everyone's old computers, old mobile phones, what do you do with them? ", I want to discuss with you how to reuse old mobile phones to make use of their residual heat (in fact, most mobile phones are still good, and the performance is not bad, but they are not suitable for running apps such as WeChat, QQ, and Alipay). I will first introduce my ideas and basic methods, and I will post detailed instructions for the specific steps later. This method has been used for a year and is still being gradually adjusted and optimized. It has been tested on multiple different mobile phones of me and my colleagues. If you have a good method, you are also welcome to discuss it together.

The main purpose here is to use old mobile phones as auxiliary tools for electronic engineers to synchronize, backup and share files. Data manuals, project documents, codes can be viewed at any time, and simple NAS can be used, rather than for document collaboration, media services, remote desktop, Thunder download, Docker, etc. Compared with using USB flash drives/mobile hard drives, using mobile phones does not require computers or data cables, is flexible and convenient, can be used at any time, and is cross-platform, but the speed is limited by the network and is definitely not as fast as USB.

The following method is mainly suitable for Android phones, not iOS (iOS has more restrictions, although there are similar software, but the effect is not as good as Android). The Android system version must be at least 6.0, preferably not less than 7.0. If the system version is lower, some software will not be able to be installed. There are not many requirements for the brand, CPU, and RAM of the phone (of course, the bigger and faster the better), no ROOT or special permissions are required, and the APPs used are all free or open source, there are no cracked or paid versions of the program, and there are no copyright issues.

Main steps:

  1. Clean up your phone, delete unnecessary programs (it’s best to double-clear), and make necessary settings.
  2. Install the free F-Droid software (optional) to manage apps.
  3. Install the artifact software Termux on Android and make relevant configurations.
  4. Install server software such as PHP in Termux.
  5. Install syncthing to achieve file synchronization.
  6. Install private cloud applications such as Kedao Cloud to facilitate file management.
  7. Install intranet penetration software such as sunflower, tailscale, zerotier, frp, etc. to achieve remote access (optional).

Note:

  • Everyone's needs may be different. Based on this, you can make adjustments according to your own needs and finally make a system that suits you.

Master, I have a broken phone screen. Is it possible to take out the circuit board of the phone, connect the screen and make a new phone by myself? My previous phone was Honor V9.

This idea is interesting. I have several mobile phones that are sleeping, but the memory is not very large.

Can I turn a discarded mobile phone into a stand-alone game console? I think I'm not doing my job properly.

I have several old mobile phones, which are very problematic. After double clearing, they are still extremely slow. Is there any good solution?
