The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) previously launched an investigation into Broadcom because the company was accused of forcing Samsung Electronics to sign a long-term parts procurement contract with it.

According to Korean media Business Korea, Broadcom proposed a "voluntary correction plan" after being investigated. They hope to invest 20 billion won in the Korean semiconductor industry within five years.

According to reports, of the 20 billion won, 7.7 billion won will be used for engineer training, and 12.3 billion won will be used for newly established and existing non-large fabless companies. In addition, they will also train 150 students and employees every year for two weeks to two months on semiconductor data collection and analysis and automotive chip design. For companies, it will help them enter the industry and build a testing and verification environment. .

IT House’s inquiry found that Broadcom was investigated because the Korean Fair Trade Commission found Broadcom components in Samsung smartphones released before March last year, but the two companies currently do not do business together.

The investigation found that the U.S. semiconductor manufacturing company forced other companies to sign a three-year contract to sell smartphone components. In addition, it also requires Samsung Electronics to purchase more than US$760 million in parts every year, and must pay the remaining amount if the amount is not reached.

The committee will decide next month whether to accept the plan. If the KFTC considers its proposal to be reasonable, it can close the case without taking punitive measures.
