On March 7, foreign media reported that South Korea's Samsung will stop supplying telephone communication equipment and chips to Russia. Previously, Samsung had suspended cargo ships to Russia. Samsung Electronics said that the reason for stopping the supply of goods to Russia was due to problems in logistics and transportation. The company is currently actively paying attention to the current complex situation and formulating responses and solutions.
Samsung Electronics reportedly said that considering the current geopolitical developments, the company's product shipments to Russia have been suspended. People familiar with the matter said that Samsung has suspended all exports to Russia, from chips to smartphones and consumer electronics. "Our thoughts are with everyone affected. Our top priority is to ensure the safety of all employees and their families," Samsung said.
According to Chip Intelligence, according to Russian data in recent years, South Korea's Samsung is Russia's largest memory chip supplier, followed by Micron and SK Hynix. Currently, Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron control more than 80% of the global memory chip market (including NAND Flash and DRAM).
As an American company, Micron should have complied with US regulations prohibiting the supply of chips to Russia. However, there has been no news of the second largest memory chip manufacturer, SK Hynix, cutting off supplies to Russia. If the three companies cut off supplies at the same time, Russia may find it difficult to obtain memory chips in the future.
