Minister of Industry and Information Technology: my country ranks first in the world in total number of AI invention patents granted

At the opening ceremony of the 2021 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, Minister of Industry and Information Technology Xiao Yaqing stated that my country's artificial intelligence industry has achieved remarkable development results. Technological innovation applications such as image recognition and speech recognition have entered the ranks of the world's advanced countries. The total number of artificial intelligence invention patent authorizations ranks first in the world. The scale of core industries continues to grow, and a complete industrial chain and application ecology covering the basic layer, technology layer and application layer has been formed.

IT Home learned that the "2020 China Artificial Intelligence Development Report" released at the 2020 Annual Conference of China's Artificial Intelligence Industry held in Suzhou recently showed that in the past 10 years, there have been more than 520,000 artificial intelligence patent applications worldwide. Among them, my country's artificial intelligence patent applications amounted to nearly 390,000 (389,571), accounting for nearly 3/4 (74.7%) of the global total, ranking first in the world.

The report said that China is a world leader in scientific research output in more than 10 AI sub-fields, including natural language processing, chip technology and machine learning, but still needs to catch up in areas such as human-computer interaction, knowledge engineering, robotics, computer graphics and computational theory. In the next decade, AI will focus on reinforcement learning, knowledge mapping and intelligent robots.
