The Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) Board of Directors has appointed Arm CEO Simon Segars as Chairman. For the past two years, Segars served as Vice Chairman, with AMD President and CEO Lisa Su serving as Chairman, with the two previously working together to expand the GSA ecosystem, including software, services, solutions and systems.
To support this vision, GSA has launched several initiatives, including automotive and Internet of Things (IoT) interest groups. In addition, its women’s leadership program has grown exponentially with the release of the “CEO Commitment” and the publication of its Best Practices Handbook, which is designed to hire and advance women in the semiconductor industry.
“I am honored to be named Chair of the GSA Board and look forward to continuing the work I started as Vice Chair,” said Segars. “My fellow board members and I will continue to execute on the expanded GSA vision as we diversify our membership to reflect the broader semiconductor ecosystem and build on our successful Women’s Leadership Program. I look forward to GSA representatives working with all regions and markets and companies of all sizes – from startups to technology leaders – as we innovate our industry and co-create advanced solutions.”
“This is an important moment in the history of our organization. While 2020 has been an unprecedented year in every sense of the word, the semiconductor industry has continued to grow and achieve impressive results. 2021 will continue to be optimistic, and I am confident that our ecosystem will not only survive, but thrive,” said Jodi Shelton, CEO of GSA. “I am very grateful for the vision, dedication and passion that Lisa has brought to us over the past two years. Equally, I am excited about the future with Simon as Chairman. Simon will help us continue to move forward with his strategic vision and expansion plans to meet the growing demand for a greater technology ecosystem.”
“It is an honor to serve as Chair of the GSA Board of Directors. I am proud of our achievements over the past two years, and I am confident that under the leadership of Jodi and Simon, GSA will continue to have a significant impact in advancing our industry,” said Lisa.
The GSA Board represents some of the most influential companies in the industry, providing a comprehensive global perspective and commitment to foster collaboration, innovation and integration across the industry and value chain.
Segars is the CEO of Arm, and since joining Arm as one of the first employees, he has driven technology and business innovation to help the company transform into the world's most pervasive computing architecture. Segars was appointed CEO in July 2013 after successfully expanding the company's business in the United States. In the United States, he not only conducts business, but also strengthens leadership and interpersonal relationships in Silicon Valley, and he still lives with his family. He has a bachelor's degree in electronic engineering from the University of Sussex and a master's degree in computer science from the University of Manchester. In recognition of his extraordinary lifetime achievements and impact on the global technology industry, Simon was awarded an honorary doctorate of science by the University of Sussex.
