Hemlock acquires DuPont trichlorosilane production line

Hemlock Semiconductor Operations (HSC) has announced the acquisition of DuPont's trichlorosilane (TCS) production line, the primary raw material for ultra-pure polysilicon supplied to the semiconductor and solar industries.

By acquiring the TCS business in Midland, Michigan, HSC will be able to better control supply and significantly reduce costs. In addition, it can also create a more energy-efficient and emission-reducing supply chain, thereby improving competitiveness.

Mark Bassett, Chairman and CEO of HSC, said: "This acquisition will strengthen our already strong semiconductor market position. It will help accelerate our growth in the solar sector. We will be able to provide better quality ultra-pure polysilicon to significantly reduce the carbon emissions of producing solar panels."

Bassett called the acquisition of the TCS production line "a major milestone" for HSC, fully integrating the company's manufacturing with a key raw material. Polysilicon is used to make solar photovoltaic (PV) cells and integrated circuits.
